Your blog is anyone's cure for homeschool burnout. This stuff is very hard to stomach. I can't believe how they get away with it, and why anyone is left in public school at all.

Leave a testimony

"I've placed banner ads in The Old Schoolhouse e-news, printed ads in their magazine, and had reviews done by the TOS staff.

Within days of the ads appearing, the orders started flowing in!

This keeps me busy, but it's great for business!

I read my TOS magazine from cover to cover... even the ads!... so, I am quite sure the multitudes they are reaching with the magazine will see my ad too!

The marketing dept. has been terrific in accommodating my advertising needs.

Thanks, TOS!"

Happenings  by Twisted Sister
I told you I was reading "The Secret of the Shadow" book 1 of The Codebearers Series- advertised here on Homeschoolblogger.  It was good. It has been a long time since I've read a first person novel, but it kept me interested. I'll keep an eye out for #2. This could be a good series for our church library. The diet caught me yesterday. I was driving home from work at 6:05 and realized I was starving, and it was after six. So, I called a "Calvin and Hobbes Rule" and ate plain lettuce. The boys thought I was nuts. They were (more)
Times Attack - Learn To Multiply  by Dawn
I came across this awesome free game (although they do have a paid version as well) called Times Attack made by a company called Big Brainz! I downloaded it for my son, who hasn't started multiplication yet but will this semester, after I got a recommendation from my friend April at Walking In His Ways. I was amazed since generally computer games "aren't our thing", but it's colorful and very educational and geared for what seemed like my son personally. LOL It's got fire, dragons, cavemen with big sticks, dungeouns etc. Just very fun and my son who upon loading (more)

Business Affairs  by Sawicki's
With the beginning of the New Year, I can not help but want to get some things in order.  Now the Rich has been running his own business for a couple of years, I have learned a lot about what needs to be done to run a successful business.  We have had some hard times with the business as I am sure many people have this year.  Rich has had to go to work for someone else.  And, although Rich is not really accepting any new business, I still have to make sure that certain things remain in order for (more)
A Decent first day back  by kcmyworld
I've been a bit afraid of how today would go.  I wasn't able to do any planning over the holidays due to a couple of trips to Las Cruces for my mother's health issues.  And she was talking of moving here in about a month, though she's now decided to postpone that until summer.  Summer gives us more time to get things together - the rental house we own next door should open up in early summer, so my mom and her husband can move there.  Anyway, with the unknowns of when she's moving, how much we'll need to help (more)
Snow-wheeling fuuun!!  by Karl
That was fuuuuun!  Well last Saterday was the long awaited snow-wheeling trip.  My truck's debut you might call it.  Lol.  Dad,Austin and I got up at 6:00 and got ready to go.  We loaded up my truck on the trailer the night before.  We weren't sure if the truck was road worthy yet,so we took it on the trailer.  We took the bench seat out of our GMC Safari minivan, and fit it into the bed of the truck.  It fit "Like a glove!!!".  Lol.  I'd say I was the most redneck vehicle out there that day.  Hahaha!  Well we met (more)
Missionary Aviation  by MomAtHome
I received an e-mail from someone on staff at New Tribes Mission today that was so encouraging.  I still don't know how we are ever going to find the money to pay for our 15yods to get his flight training, but I was reminded that "God sees."  He knows.  And he will provide.   We truly believe that God has placed this desire deep in our son's heart -- since he was 8.  When we were working a janitorial job on the side, we paid him to help with the work.  But now there is no extra income, and we are none (more)
David and Goliath  by Donna
This week we've been studying David and Goliath in the Bible. As a kid, this was always my favorite story, so I knew the boys would love it too. I was right. They can't wait until the next day to hear more about David and his problems with Saul. We've been memorizing Psalm 23 along with it. Everytime I say this Psalm now I think about 9/11 because I read the book, Let's Roll by Lisa Beamer. She tells the story of Todd Beamer, her husband. He prayed Psalm 23 to the airphone operator before the passengers of Flight (more)
The Yo-yo Diet  by 3JsMom
You've heard of this often. So and so lost 30 lbs. within the first 2 months of dieting, or so and so lost 80 lbs. in 6 months, then you heard later that they gained all the weight back half a year later. What happened? Why can't the weight loss be sustained?   My first guess would be, they went on an extreme calorie restrictive diet during the dieting period, which forced their bodies into starvation mode. Let's say, you need 1600 calorie each day, but you only eat 800 calorie each day, then of course your weight will go down, down, down. Weight loss is (more)
No Short Cut  by 3JsMom
Really, there's no short cut to weight loss.   If you think you only eat 100 calorie extra each day that you won't get fat, then you're wrong. From my calculation, if you eat just 100 calorie more than you burn each day, within the year, you'll gain 10.5 lbs. Give it three years, you'll be 31.5 lbs heavier than you are today. Shocking, isn't it? What seemingly small number will greatly affect your health in 5, 10, 15, 20 years.   So, now, I want to lose 10 lbs, it'll take me a long time too! According to the site's calculation, I'll meet my (more)
Taming the Chaos ~ Is Last Season's Schedule Still Working?  by HomeschoolBlogger Company Blog
As I alluded to last week, I've tweaked our school schedule and added a bit of a twist in hopes of keeping me from feeling like a like a ping-pong ball.   I'm alternating my teacher-instruction days between the two oldest.   My children don't focus in tiny little bits here and there, but tend to do better in bigger clumps of time.  (They come by it from me, no doubt.) I hope this gives me time to concentrate on each child and allows them to dig in a bit better on their lessons.  (And with the two little boys keeping me busy, I'm thinking it might be just (more)

Homeschool Writing Contest  by Sawicki's
I don't know about you, but I am always looking for neat ways to get my kids excited about writing.  While I used to love writing when I was growing up, I have to admit that this is not true for either of my children.  Kalene is a talented writer when she's feeling up to it.  Richie has absolutely no interest in writing anything! The Schoolhouse Store is hosting a writing contest for homeschoolers.  I'm thinking that maybe a contest is just the motivation I need.  You can read all about the contest here.  (more)
Oh How Sweet the sound......  by cherryblossom
Of a new post!!!!!!!!!!!! Isn't it lovely?? :) OK so first off let me update y'all on the wonderful life of Julia. Remember the strung-out-beyond-reality-high girl I rang up a purchase for at my work back in September? Remember Loretta N? The police never took my statement, never contacted me about anything. I figure it was over and she was in jail. Well to my surprise, it is not over. I was informed 3 weeks ago my MOD that day, Jacque, received a SUBPOENA to appear in court to testify against Loretta, well actually against Nicole, Loretta is the name (more)
