We decided to stay for a few days in Singapore before flying to Manila. But over the weekend, we took a 2 day trip to Kuala Lumpur by bus from Singapore and back. The Petronas Towers are 452 metres tall (1,483f), have 88 stories, and were completed in 1998. They were the world's tallest from 1997 (when they were topped out by Taipei 101 at 509 metres/1,671 ft)until October 2003. Beyond these gates is the Sultan of Terengganu's palace, the present King of Malaysia. The king's role is largely ceremonial, with power in the hands of parliament and the prime minister. Malaysia is the only country in the world to have a rotating monarchy. The king is elected by the Conference of Rulers and sworn in for a five-year term. One of the oldest buildings in Malaysia, the Kuala Lumpur Railway Station is another Moorish-style structure designed by architect A.B. Hubback. It was built in 1910, but was extensively renovated in 1986. The Jalan Petaling night market in Chinatown is a bustling, crowded, huge, noisy, maze of stalls of cheap copies of designer accessories. We walked our way through it without buying anything.. Except for sweet meats from this guy! Night view of the Petronas from Eye on Malaysia Ferris Wheel. Batik industry is a major tourist attraction in Malaysia... ooh, this one is very nice at $50, quite pricey.
