Sun 18 May 2008 - The Ride to Kandalama
Now, here are some rides you don't see everyday but these are the more cheaper and common means of getting around in many rural areas. There are big buses too but we see those anywhere around the world anyway. I just thought I would share the photos here...
In many Sri Lankan towns, people use bikes to get around. The trishaw, also called triwheeler, Sri Lanka's version of "tuktuk" of Thailand comes also as a fave. We ride the "tuktuk" around Colombo.

Children ride on bikes to school.
I haven't seen so much jackfruit! I would love to drive this one home =) yum! Big trucks transport fresh produce from farms to the markets in big cities.
And of course, you remember this one.
Watch this car...you won't believe how small it is.
This one is my son's fave as he took this photo. We were parked in front of a supermarket to get some stuff when he saw this very small car, I guess it is just the smallest one we have ever seen! Parked beside it is a triwheeler which gave away its size. This was taken shortly after we arrived in Kandalama.
I know this is not complete for there are speedy buses, crowded trains, aircon cabs, noisy-yet-a-novelty "kuligligs" (which are so elusive I am still trying to capture it in my lens). Here is how it looks but this one is from the Philippines. I was amazed to see this in the provinces here in Sri Lanka. Like in the Philippines, they use it as a farm machine and public transport.
The options are so diverse and different from what you see everyday.
This dirt road leads to a place we never thought existed.

My son, Fuzzy, our gentle zephyr - tired on a boulder yet as serene as this awesome sight.
