Random Ramblings....Just Thinking Out Loud

Dec. 3, 2007 - Newbie

Well, I'm new to homeschooling but I'm even newer to blogging.  Hopefully this will go better than our first homeschool lesson!

I am married to a bi-vocational Baptist Pastor, Glen.  We have 2 children - ages 8 & 10, and we just started our homeschool journey this year.

We have prayed about homeschooling for 3 or 4 years, but didn't want to take the plunge until we were fully committed.  This summer, God spoke loudly when He said, "it's time!".

I feel like we definitely did the right thing - but my own insecurities creep in most days.  I hear from other moms that this is normal, but  I guess I'm not used to being out of my comfort zone, because this has not been the normal for me.  God is definitely pulling me out of my comfort zone now that we're in the ministry!  Looking back at most things I've set out to do, it seems that I already knew how to do those things before I did them.  Not so with ministry or homeschooling!  I did my research on homeschool, sure, but everyone else's "right way" hasn't necessarily been ours.

I started with A Beka curriculum (because that's what the kids were used to using at the Christian school they attended), but I've found myself stopping for a unit study and switching up a few other things along the way.  Hopefully I'll be settled into something we can stick with by next year!

I'm finding myself relying on my husband and God a lot more these days for direction.  I am not a rebellious wife, by any means, but I used to just DO what I needed to do.  I am finding that there are so many decisions that need to be made with homeschooling and that I'm going to my husband more for answers.  In turn, we are both going to God with those questions.  It's definitely humbling to think that I don't have all of the answers.  But how freeing to know that I don't have to!

Hopefully I'll be back to ramble again soon,
