Living for Him

A funny beginning

Well it's a new year and I'm starting off doing what I like to do.  I've re-organized my son's room (translation: moved everything around AGAIN), I'm heading to the homeschool store today for a new math book, I've had friends over for dinner, will attend a party and a wedding this weekend.  So...by next week I'll be exhausted and want to do nothing!  Yet - the new semester begins!

Anyway, yesterday I made cupcakes and I had this great mommy idea that I would let my 8 yr. old son ice them and decorate them.  So I get the icing ready and get out his favorite food coloring, and call him into the kitchen.  Now, in the "being a great mommy" books, at this point the child is so thrilled to be asked to help and the mom and the child spend hours enjoying working together.  Well - my son mixes his icing to his desired color, ices ONE cupcake, then turns to me and says "Mom, can you take over? This is really hard. But I want to lick the knife!"   So much for those special moments!

Have a great new beginning!

I found your blog through your comment on Squeeli's . I had to laugh when I read this post . It's like my kids , they get real excited to do something like that but once they realize it's going to be tedious repetition they are ready to move on :)

We read all the good mommy books but the children forget to read all the good children books. I remember one time when the girls were younger I wanted them to do paper mache' on a balloon and make great big Easter eggs. I got everything ready and they did a couple of strips of paper and asked if I could finish them because it was gooey and they didn't like it. I remember thinking, "what is wrong with my kids? they should love this". Oh well.

Thanks for the comment about my schedule. I do that, too. Make wonderful plans and schedules and then don't keep them after a few days. Well, this year will be different! Right?

Have a great new year!!

Hi there! Thanks for stopping by and saying hello! We love the "learning plan", it makes the children more involved in the learning. They seem to learn better when they are choosing their own interests and take part in the process. I loved your New Year's Resolutions. I need to break mine down like those.

See...I sadly wish my kids would do this, because I HATE cooking with children. It is a character flaw, I'm afraid. When I cook or bake I want everyone to GO AWAY, and when I have guilt and make myself include the children, I always end up with a headache. I want it to be a joyous occasion that they will remember forever...but it does not come naturally to me at all. So sad.
