Bowen's Crossing

Oct. 26, 2006 - Getting Started

As a new member of the blogging world I guess first I could introduce myself and my family.  My name is Mande.  My husband John and I have two wonderful little girls.  Alexa Leigh is six and Jonna Rae (like Donna with a J) is three.  We live in a small town in Georgia surrounded by crops and it is my understand that the cows are coming home very shortly and will be our neighbors.  This we have my farming father to thank.  Though I would not trade this place in the country for anything I believe the cows will make for some smelly neighbors.

My husband and I started talking a little about home schooling a year or so ago.  It was not long after I went to work at our local high school that we realized we did not want our children to have to face the issues the most young ones this day in time have to face.  We did not talk very seriously of home schooling as it was not the "normal" thing to do.

Recently my husband has taken a new job that in the future will call for months away from home.  We knew then that we did not want our children to grow up with Daddy away from home for months on end.  We started talking of home schooling very seriously at this point and with a lot of insight from a great friend who also happens to be a home schooling Mom we knew this was what we should be doing.  I was very nervous about getting started and continued to put it off for a couple of week.  It seems as though it was only days after we had made the decision to home school that Alexa began to have trouble at school....bad grades and trouble getting along with the other students.  Part of the problem I do believe was a personality conflict with the teacher and then of course some of the children like to act ugly.  Alexa would not tell the teacher because there will be no "tattle tails" in her class.

This past Monday morning we were on our way to take Alexa to school with the plans of talking to her teacher when a light bulb came on in our little heads.  Why should we go to this school and ask strangers about the problems our daughter is having and then leave her there knowing we want to home school?  Soooo....Instead we went in and withdrew her.

On Tuesday morning we started our new home schooling adventure!  We are truly new to this so any little tips would be great.

Today being only our third day and Alexa is already having a load of fun and doing great.  Everything she was having trouble with at school she is doing at home with no problems at all!  I know home schooling is what we are meant to be doing.

Welcome to the wonderful world of home schooling! I'm new to this blogger thing as well, but I'm hoping to gain some wisdom here. I'm home schooling my 5-year-old daughter. It is such a peace to know that she is safe here with me. She thinks the best thing about it is that there are no "stinky boys" to deal with. I think that opinion will change in the near future. I have her involved in church activities as well as in a ballet class for socialization. I believe that's important. Good luck & God bless as you continue this adventure!

Welcome to the homeschool blogging world I have only been here a few weeks and I already love it, (yes I'm addicted) I love to hear about others days and especially there ideas on school, raising children and cooking and organizing and Jesus Christ anything I can learn to help my day go smoother. I also above all hope to be an encouragement to others.
Remember to come back here when you need encouragement because I promise every week will not be as wonderful as the 1st week. (Just most weeks.) There are plenty of Godly women here to help guide you.
Love you
A great friend

Hi! Welcome to home schooling and to HSB. YOU will find lots of encouragment here. I *know* your friend misty316 .... and enjoy visiting with her. YOU will have such great times with your girls ... making memories and teaching them what they need to know. This is our 17th year with one in his 4th yr of college. Our youngest is 3. I love being a mama to 1/2 dozen and that God has called us to home school. It is our lifestyle and it is just something we know we do.

I hope you can visit my blog and others that will help you in this journey. May we encourage you as you begin.

blessings,
Teena
