Oct. 31, 2006 - About home schooling and the negative~
Yes your pics are not coming all the way in.... :(
I want to address what you blogged about... your dad. I can so relate~ when we started our journey 17 yrs ago our Michael was going into 1st grade. I was so worried about telling my parents. I knew there would be all kinds of persecution.
You know what .... there was. My mom.... just thought I was making the dumbest decision of our life. She said I didn't do well in school so how could I teach Michael (Mandi our 2nd was still a toddler)~
I remember I went to a Home School Mom's luncheon~ and I was so nervous and worried about family and what they would say.... the hostess of this luncheon prayed with me on her front porch.
One time ... my very favorite, CHRISTIAN Aunt.... raked me over the coals... IN FRONT OF other family members telling me I was doing my children a great injustice. UGH~
But you know~ 17 yrs later.... my son who will graduate from college this coming May~ has been on the deans list, doesn't have any student loans, all college will be paid for.... due to scholarships. But MORE than all that.... he walks with the Lord....
They also thought I was nuts when I said .... we were not going to allow our children to date.... we do courtship. They still think we are pretty nuts~ LOL~
Michael is 21 and this is his one and only girl. They will probably marry this coming year.
Again, with each child AFTER the 2nd they fussed and fumed and think we are nuts. LOL
About the sports.... our 3rd child would love to play more~ but we do what we can. He is 13 now~ and rec ball only goes to 12 here. He is playing UpWard Basketball. This will be his last year. He also takes drums....
I have friends whose dd's wanted to play high school ball.... basketball ball~ so she put them in christian school and she went to work. That may work for some ... IMO ... that is sorta crazy but I try not to judge. LOL ~ You know not my place. ~smile~
As my parents are older now (in their 80's) and they have seen the school shootings (they live in a big city and we live in a rural area) they are thankful their only grandchildren are safe. They see that they are getting an education.
My inlaws never agreed either (both are passed now) my FIL lived near us his last two years of his life. He died in Apr 06. Before he died he told me... what a great mom, devoted to my children and what great kids I had. I knew he approved then.
But even if they don't approve this is what God has called me to do.... so I keep on keeping on~ and I love it.
The first several years is the hardest..... but oh so sweet too.
Now that I have one ... on the other side~ graduated.... I can see how much our decision .... to live this life.... is truly a blessing. So many miss the deep time and relationships with their children b/c they are gone most of the time when in ps or christian school. I am truly blessed.
YOU are too!
sorry so long but wanted to encourage you~ reading back over this... it is a long comment (blush)
blessings,
Teena

I can see your pics, and have no idea what everyone else is talking about...... Your daughters are soo cute!
Reading your blog entry about your dad really made me understand what my mom must have gone through when she and my dad decided to homeschool me.
Neither side of the family was very supportive, and both told my parents that they were crazy for thinking they could teach me; but my mom had been a teacher's aid a couple of times and knew she didn't want me to grow up in that enviornment.
Ten years later (I'm 15 now) both sides of grandparents very much support us. My Nana proudly tells her old PTA friends "...Homeschoolers are going to change the world!" (it's rather embarrasing, to tell the truth:)
You were saying you'd like some suggestions to ease your dad's mind a bit?
I'm only 15, but I'm going to tell you what my mom tells every new homeschooler.
Ready for some Words Of Wisdom?
Find a homeschool group.
Profound huh?!
If you find a group that has kids the same age as yours, and moms with experience, that may help your dad and you, to know that you and your kids are not alone.
I hope this encourages you, and helps you on the hard (but rewarding!) journey you are beginning.
Laters!
