Answer from God
I just wanted to share an answer to prayer that I've had, it's not dramatic, but it is important to me. I am working on curriculum, looking at what we have, and looking at what we need to purchase. We are going to the Abeka open house on Friday, there are some things I want from them. I have been praying over my list and asking God to show me any places where I have resources at home that I could use instead of buying something.
During the night God reminded me about a book I have that I started re-reading as soon as I got up. It is Rick Warren's Bible Study Methods. It is very specific and gives twelve methods with pages to copy for worksheets. It is for adults, but could be adapted to any age child. Not only does it mean we don't need to buy Bible curriculum for my teens, but it also teaches FANTASTIC study habits that could be applied to anything you need to study.
My teens are terrible at studying. They just started homeschooling last year and always got straight A's with very little effort. Which is great, but the consequence is that they have no idea how to actually work on any academic pursuits. Mom knows what they are capable of and doesn't have 25 other kids to deal with!!!
I am so excited about this on so many levels. I am excited for me to get started on some more intensive Bible study and draw closer to the Lord, I am excited for my kids to draw closer to the Lord, and I am excited that we have a complete plan to become diligent students.
Thank you Lord Jesus!!

Books for teens, feeling better
Hello to all,
I am feeling better from my hysterectomy May 27th. I was wondering about books for teen boys. My twins are avid readers but can't ever find anything at the library that they want to read. Even some suggestions for authors would be very helpful, as we order books online and then pick them up.
We are going to use a "scavenger hunt" based on what I read from one of you! I am going to give them a list of genres and have them find a book to read from each of the genres. I hope it will help them explore their library and find SOMETHING they want to read. Mostly they read non-fiction, but I want them to branch out.

Hyterectomy blues, warning TMI
I have had a complication from my hysterectomy on May 27th and am wondering if it is a common one. I had been slowly improving, went to church on Sunday and went up and down stairs a couple of times delivering children to their respective departments. I have been bleeding lightly since the surgery, but at 5:30 pm I started bleeding profusely. I filled 6 overnight pads in 3 hours and was passing golfball size clots. I ended up having to go the ER and they removed a small granuloma from inside and used silver nitrate to cauterize the spot. That has reverted the bleeding back to the light bleeding I had been having since the surgery. I had so much pain from the exam that I was back on pain pills yesterday, an awful thing when my house is such a DISASTER!! I am better today.
So, any other folks out there experience anything like this? Anybody have any guesses on how long I will bleed?

It's Summer!!
Well, summer is upon us and this is a time of celebration for our family. We praise God for our beautiful weather and wonderful life. I have not been blogging, just very busy and I had surgery 2 weeks ago Wednesday. I am slowly improving, suffering from "over-do-it itis". I am sure any other moms who have had a major illness with children at home can understand this syndrome!!
I have been reading some of yours, sorry I am so lax about mine. I am a bit of a techno-illiterate, so I don't understand all the ins and out, so please forgive any mistakes, etc

New to homeschooling, new to blogs, whole new world
Hi everyone,
We are newly homeschooling my 8 year old, he came out of public school in March of this year. He was one miserable first grader! I have three other children, twins going to public school next year where dh teaches, and my only girl is going to kindergarten in the fall and I will be homeschooling her after that.
I would appreciate someone letting me know if this works like it is supposed to work when someone has time.
We are going with eclectic for next year, plus Saxon math. My son is quite gifted and a kinesthetic learner. He hates anything that reminds him of school, needless to say he is not a workbook kid!! I am thinking about some unit study work, but there is just so much to learn!!!! For me, anyway, my reluctant student is not interested in learning anything.
So, that is my intro. I feel confident we will find our way, but this is a whole new world and a bit of a challenge for my dh who teaches in the district we are pulling out of. They are unhappy with us, of course, coveting my childrens' test scores as they were. The principal actually said this.
Any ideas to help us navigate our way? Any helpful books I haven't read yet? Anything I could really mess up in the next year that I haven't forseen?
Thanks again.
Misty
