Here is my 1st journal entry from FIRE convention. Which was AWESOME as usual. (can I say usual if it was just the second one I went too?)
August 29, 2005
After the Royal Rangers graduation ceremony was through, we headed out. Brian and I drove separately. I took the boys, though I would have rather driven by myself. We were on the road by about 7:30. With a couple stops for gas and drinks, we got to the campsite at 1:30 AM. Our campsite had 3-4 big tree stumps right in the middle.
In the morning, after about 5 hours sleep, we found a campsite worker and discussed options for changing. We finally got our site changed (though it wasn’t ready till noon), ate breakfast in the dining hall (couldn’t make breakfast), signed up for some classes, and met a new family. The have a boy (9) and 2 older daughters (about 12 and 14) and a younger daughter around 6. My boys enjoy playing with their boy. The invited us to join them for lunch as our campsite was ready in time for us to unpack and make lunch on time (on time for our hungry bellies). We cracked open our TINY cooler and a box of food we brought.
The cooler is a JOKE! Brian volunteered to get the cooler. I said a LARGE cooler or 2 medium ones. We needed it for a week, after all. He comes home Sunday afternoon (a couple hours before we need to leave) with a picnic size cooler. In it, I fit, a carton of OJ, a carton of milk, 4 sticks butter, 3 packs bacon, small ketchup, small BBQ sauce and a bag of cheese…… for the WEEK! I put some carrots in a small little *Igloo cooler. Next year, I gather all supplies!
The boys built small catapults (used plastic spoons) and launched wet cotton balls. And then they went swimming while Brian was in town getting a larger cooler, peanut butter and a new memory card.
I HAVE NO PICTURES! I got here and my memory card was not working! I was so disappointed.
Update: It’s down-pouring. REALLY down-pouring. And us without a tarp. But it’s fun. It’s wet. The boys and I are in the auditorium keeping dry. Brian is out in civilization again…. Looking for a tarp to buy.
AND I have a new memory card f or my camera! I can take pictures now!!!
