So What Did You Do Today?

Math Fun!
Today my son invented a new Math game: You take pasta shells and make two piles. You count the shells in one pile and write that number down. Then you write the operator sign (+/-). You then count the other pile and write that number down. You write the = sign & count the two piles together.
This is great coming from a guy who has found the second grade to be much more challenging than K or 1st grade! |

Exploding The Code!
Today we did six pages of Explode The Code! After hearing years of rave reviews, I finally saw the book in a bookstore. I don't really like to order things unseen, so I was really happy to actually see the book. I got it at a Christian bookstore over the weekend & we broke it out today. My son really enjoyed the book, and through some of it was really easy for him, I think it also reinforced skills we've learned earlier, and helped with the whole "sounding out" thing: /u/ |

The Adventures of Math-Man!
My son did well over two hours of math today...by choice(!)...and wanted to do more, but we sent him off to bed because he was getting tired!
During Wednesday's trip to the libray, we picked up a suite of 1st-2nd Grade CD-ROMs; one of which was Zoo Zillions. So, he tried that CD out tonight & had an absolute blast!
I am really happy to see him taking a keen interest in math. I have ADD (which was undiagnosed until adulthood), and math was really difficult for me. And, for me, my major issues with math began in first grade.
Friday is normally Square Dancing Night ...However, for some reason, it just didn't happen tonight, and we didn't get the e-mail notifying us. So we went to dinner with his best friend (who is also homeschooled & in the class), and then came home to play math games! |

Reading, Math & Art...Oh, My!
Today my son did some math, and did some pretty detailed artwork. We also read aloud (with me reading to him). There may be yet another trip to the library in the works tonight! |

Miércoles = Spanish Class!
This morning they were having some sort of event at the community center where we take Spanish with Miss Susy. Parking was horrific (this is an understatment!).
The theme this week was "The Face - La Cara". Susy's class is an immersion class & my son has been with her for three years now. However, at almost seven, he is at the upper range, and I have been worried about what's next because Susy is so amazing & may son has learned so much. But, my fears were in vain. One of the parents has approached Susy about doing a class for older kids. She had one once before, but this is more of an intensive workshop twice a week focusing on grammar & reading. I love this idea!
After Spanish, it was off to lunch with my son's best friend & his dad (we went to a taqueria, in keeping with our Spanish theme!). Afterward, it was off to the library...and try as we might...we came out with tons of material. We always say we will exercise restraint....and never do! But we love it that way!
We checked out some books that we got halfway through & never finished: Little House in the Big Woods & The Phantom Tollbooth. We also got Lemony Snicket's a Series of Unfortunate Events (Book 1), and lots, and lots, of educational software and DVDs. Gotta love that public library!
Then, it was time for me to dash to the knitting studio where I work at teach my son's friend. He's been knitting for almost a year now (as does my son).
And, now, it is time for us to take off to Bible study! A pretty well rounded day! |
