To clean or not to clean, that is the decision.......

Today is Sunday, and the first Sunday we didn't spend in Austin working on our rental house. I should take this time to get the much needed "clean out closets, organize junk" type of cleaning; but, I am not motivated. The weather is overcast, perfect for curling up with a good book, watching a movie, relaxing.....or updating the blog!

January was a busy month for us, to say the least.

Let's start with a little history lesson from Wikipedia....

The inauguration of Barack Obama as the forty-fourth President of the United States took place on January 20, 2009. The inauguration, with a record attendance for any event held in Washington, D.C., marked the commencement of the four-year term of Barack Obama as President and Joseph Biden as Vice President. With his inauguration as President of the United States, Obama became the first African American to hold the office and the first president born in Hawaii. The theme of the 56th inauguration was "A New Birth of Freedom," commemorating the 200th anniversary of the birth of Abraham Lincoln.[1]

January 20 was spent being part of history and learning about our new President.

We wrapped up the final work on our rental house. Here is Leo checking out the attic...no bugs or monsters....all is clear! So glad he was brave enough to check out the attic. I only wish you could see his little pinlight flashlight he used to look around.

And the kids helped with huling off the leaves.  We spent the entire weekend raking leaves. We filled over 24 bags with each bag being 42 gallons.  The boys worked hard while Aundrea supervised, making sure the boys loaded each bag correctly into the trailer. (she is good at supervising :0

We did a little bit of landscaping....planted a tree and monkey grass-hopefully the grass will start sprouting.

The backyard is in desperate need of work!!  Within the next few months, we plan to lay more dirt and plant grass.  Note the bags of leaves. The kids and I spent one weekend just raking up leaves. The yard was covered!

Well, after all this hard work, we have decided to rent out the house..  The ad went into effect at 0800 on a Friday morning and by 0830, I was starting to receive calls.  In the 4 days the ad was in the paper, we had over 30 inquires.  By Saturday afternoon, we had decided on a lovely couple. She called on Friday morning, viewed and signed the lease on Saturday.  They moved in yesterday, Feb. 7.

And, now the search begins......Since we decided the drive to Austin would be too far for Mark to commute daily-90-120 minutes each way on a good day of traffic-, we are looking into buying a house in San Antonio. In the past 3 weeks, we have looked at 4 different houses.  Our lease in this apartment expires the end of May and so we hope to be in our house by that time. Finding that perfect home is hard!  Most likely this will be our retirement home, a home we would like to live in for the rest of our lives, not an investment home like our other 2 houses. I am not picky, but I would love a house with a pool, lots of space-but not too big-tile floors (so we dont' have to tile another house), lots of yard space for the kids to burn off their energy. See, not picky at all!  oh and the price has to be within our budget!   Thankfully for us, there are a lot of homes to choose from-almost too many, as it makes it hard to decide on that "perfect" home.
