Jan. 26, 2008 - It's Been Forever

Well my life has completly changed.  About 6 months ago the Lord began to prepare my husbnad and I for a change in our ministry, in all reality it really started earlier than that. But, the real preparation began then.  As I write this my mind is racing with thoughts and emotions.........I spent 4 years of in a most blessed season of homeschooling my children.  At the beginning of the 07/08 school year as our family had planned for my oldest began Christian School again.  See, when my children were born I never intended to homeschool, but, because of the twists and turns of life and ministry in 2003 when we moved to South Carolina I felt it was the best thing.  And it truly was, most of their lives I managed church child care centers and ALWAYS cared for and educated alot of children.  But, The Lord reserved this season for me to be with my children, it was so awesome.

On September 14, 2007 we moved back to Alabama, not to our home town but to Hackleburg, Alabama...The Church of God of Prophecy here requested us for an interview and we excepted the challenge.  A growing church of about 100 people, just purchased 47 acres and needed a pastoral team to lead them in building their congregation and new facility.  A perfect fit for us, exciting yet scary.  The only glitch.......concerning educating our children......the town has a whopping population of 1500 people, yes that's it........i don't believe I have ever lived in a town this small.  The parsonage and current church is strategically located on the corner of one of the main highways in town and "School Rd", yep the whole school is in in our back yard, I watch my kids go from the school building to the lunchroom everyday.  The whole school K-12 has 527 students.  I felt that it would be in our best interest to become apart of this "tight nit" community and place our children in the school system.  Even though my children had NEVER been in public school, I believed from the beginnning that God would meet us there.  We transfered Wynn to the High School after 2 1/2 weeks at his new Christian school in SC.  I continued to school Ash & Bri at home after we moved through the Christmas Break.  I was so special, everyday was such a joy even the stressfull days.  Ash & Bri started on January 7th and it has been awesome.  The teachers all live here and even though the complain and confide in me concerning the "strange ways" of the public school system, they have embraced my kids and let me come and be apart of the school anytime I would like.  I began in October helping a nother pastor in town keep the Marching Band program alive, because it is a small school they lost their Band Teacher funding last year.  We our volunteering keeping the program alive.  I teach 5th and 6th graders, simple music theory.

Now back to homeschooling...............I tell everyone I know to homeschool their children if at all possible at least one time in their life, it is so rewarding!  I have many types of friends, businness executives, realators, farmers, stay-at-home moms ect.  Homeschooling bonds you with your children in a way that regular school cannot.  The night before my children started their first day at our new school in our new little town, we had a family meeting.......we discussed how different things were gonna be.......but we would still continue with our communication and we would still continue to be hands on with the education of our kids.  Well almost 4 weeks later, it is true, this has been the best thing for our family at this time,  Now the homework is rediculous!!!  But, we know how to handle that..ahahhahaha!

Here is a picture of my to youngest ones on their first day.........so emotional for me.  I have had Brianne in my class since she was in 1st grade.  We have faced some challenges, like remembering when to get stuff out of our locker, or writing our name on our paper (classic for a homeshcooler)...but all and all it is going well.

So what am I doing now?  Well, I am basically serving as my husbands associate pastor & administrator (fancy for youth pastor and secretary ahhahaha).  We visit on Monday's and Thursday's, Tuesday and Wednesdays I work in the office, we try to relax on Friday (big HaHa).  Everyday me & the puppy are home at 2:30 to have snacks ready for the kids, we watch them walk out of the back door of the school and run to the back porch to jump into the house to tell us about their day!

Aug. 28, 2007 - We Started School! August 22nd

Already in th flow I can't believe 2007/2008 school year is here, before I know it we will be making snowflakes for our windows in the class room......we generally don't get real ones where we live.  This year my oldest started High School at a local Christian School, now it is just me and the "little ones" (5th and 7th grade hahahaha) Anyway, for curriculum I am using PACE School of tomarrow and layering a daily review of 3 lessons over their curriculum.  I am following a guidline in tha Homeschool Teachers Plan Book by www.christianinstructor.com being sure that they have all the skills they need.  Currently, we are writing essay's on the a President.  We started the year reviewing the Continents, Oceans of the World and understanding Lattitude and Longitude.  We miss Wynn but are really enjoying our time together.

Jul. 9, 2007 - The Fantastic 5 Finale Celebration!

These five little troopers, well, 4 short and one tall.  Stepped out in faith and began to homeschool in the Fall of 2003.  The 3 dark headed ones are mine...duh! and the other two are the fabulous Will and Victoria Vines, our Senior Pastor's chirldern.  All and all the vote on homeschooling has been positive.   As Pastor Kids they all agree that not having to get up early after those late night church services and meetings that the "Parents" do is a pretty good deal.  The biggest benefit was getting to do "day" activities while other friends were in school.  The downside was having to make up school work missed from spending extra "play" days hahahah.  This picture above was taken at the beginning of May when the Spiderman 3 movie came out.  Pastor Bill and Donna, my husband and myself, along with votes from the peanut gallary thought it would be a great idea to go see the movie, in the middle of the day, followed by a fun lunch at Applebee's!  We took this picture to commemorate our "last" day  to hang out as Homeschoolers.  My oldest son Wynn, and both the Vine's children, Will and Victoria, will start Christian School in the Fall at discipleship school in our community.  Our Pastor's Wife has been given more responsibility as Co-Pastor of our church and feels that her children need to continue their education in a classroom setting.  My son, Wynn will be attending the same school.  When we moved to South Carolina, our family decided that when our children started 9th grade they would attend Christian School.  I cannot say enough about this Discipleship School........it has a great reputation and the same quality care and education they recieve from home.

As for my 2 little ones, lol, ages 12 and 10.  We will be continuing our homeschool endeavor....It will be so cool to bond with them on a different level, although it will be odd just being the 3 of us!  I will update later!

Jul. 6, 2007 - My son, the BMX wanna be!

So my son, Ashton, likes anything with wheels, he likes to race, be competitive the whole GUY thing!  Well, after our church auction a little girls bike was left over, Ashton started doing stunts with bike riding all over the church parking lot with it!  Kim Pierce a volunteer usher offered to help Ashton "pimp" his bike.  They spent an entire day sanding, painting, repairing, etc. And then, WHOLA!  A new boy bike!!!

Jul. 4, 2007 - July 4th+Happy Freedom

We made a flag cake!  Today one of the ways we clebrated was by making our own 4th of July cake!  The inside of the cake is white with colorful sprinkles and butter cream vanilla frosting.  We took 1/4 cup of frosting added 3 tablespoons of red sweetened kool-aid, mixed it till creamy, put it in a zip-loc bag, cut the bottom corner and squeezed in pipe stripes across the cake.  We used blue sugar sprinkles to make Flags blue field, and white mini sweet-tarts for "stars".  After our day of activity we cut the cake and searved it with our favorite ice cream!

Jan. 27, 2007 - Never Would Have Thought

This lovely picture is an "extreme makeover" by the one and only, 3rd child, Brianne!  She got a little bored over the Holiday's and decided "do my hair" with these bendable flowers of course.  As she is 'designing' I recalled a time in my life i would have never let a 10 year old touch my hair!  Of course I was young, not married, aspiring High School Student...My how things change.  I told her get my phone take a picture, hurry!  She had me pose with my hand under chin, she said it looked perfect and SNAP the memory was sealed in time.  The truth is I enjoyed that day with Brianne just letting her be creative and enjoying her imagination, it seems to make life simpler, less stressful when I really take time to "notice" who these little people are whom I have had a hand in raising.  So thankful, I am truly thankful. I never and at the prime age of 17 would have thought I would have let my 10 year old daughter fix my hair.

Jan. 26, 2007 - Unforgettable Day

Hummm what can I say about today that wont be saying to much...Basically bright and early this morning the children and I went to the church to do a little cleaning in the Youth Facility.  I am employed by the church to keep that facility clean on a weekly basis, generaly I put about 4 hours a week into it.  Today was not a regular clean day just a day to go and check everything out since there were going to be a funeral dinner in the afternoon, and a children's ministry activity beginning at 8:00pm.  Well, after dropping by the church office I asked my son to get in the drivers seat of the mini van so that he could once again take little practice through the parking lot...well we had a little "fender bender", that is how I will put it and leave it at that.  Let me say it was embarrasing for he and I and my husband was.......well, not to happy with us.  By the Grace of God all was well, most everything has and will be repaired and, our mini-van seems to have made it through with-out a scratch, just the reer-view mirror fell off in the impact.  Plan is to get Wynn behind the wheel again soon so he will not be skimish over driving.  It really devistated him, he was crushed, when something like that happens to your child........it really hurts your heart.

Somber, but Surviving!

"And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose."Romans 8:28

Jan. 24, 2007 - What's Happening in Knowles Academy

Well i am happy to report that we are staying current on all of our core subjects EXCEPT...History, i am gonna have to get creative on how to get caught up on that.  I know already we are gonna have to work together and do some late nights and weekends.  Wynn is being "mentally" challanged in his Bible class, which you would think that a Pastor's kid could breeze right through Bible right??  Well........i have been looking at his Bible class, i am not exagerating......it is stuff I learned my 2nd year in college.  Lord, it is detailed stuff about the Reformation.  Anyway, he is plugging away and I believe will do it!!  Currently, Brianne and Ashton are working on  a "memorization project"   by the end of February they will have all of the US states, capitals and abbreviations memorized.  Also, in March they will have all of the Presidents memorized!  They are doing well I have them working together after they complete 2 classes, they work on memorization for 25 minutes.  Also, we are doing a group Science Project for a competition in the spring.  We will be doing a presentation and study on High Cholesterol and Fatty Food intake.  It will prove to be interesting!!

Jan. 12, 2007 - Time To Blog

I have returned.  Well my blog has seen better days.  My last post was December 7th over a month ago...first off I was unable to access the blog because our community was updating their system, second, I have been extremely tied up in other areas.  But the bad thing was, in the process of the community updating some passwords I understand were deleted or not working, so being that blogging is something I procrastinate, I PROCRASTINATED following the directions sent to me in the email on how to reset my password...well I took time tonight!  And here I am.  I am up late cause my husband is in a season of fasting...tonight his body is aching due to the toxins releasing from his body, for the past week he has been only consuming whole foods and whole liquids, he has deleted all meat, dairy, sugar and bread from his diet.  He is building up to a total absence of food some time soon.  So I have been up comforting him.  We always fast in January, to prepare ourselves for the new year.  I myself have deleted bread and desserts from my menu and only consuming 1 serving of meat a day.  I always love this time even though it is so taxing on the body.  For us it is a season of personal Intimacy with Christ and our Creator.

Dec. 7, 2006 - Cheese Ball

Yes i am posting!!! I hope none of my "friends" are passing out right now.  Please don't I would like to continue my friendship with you.  I have been busy, since Thanksgiving my plate has been full.  Enjoying every stressful moment.  I was thinking earlier tonight, i don't regret being in ministry full-time and being a homeschool family...full-time.  Of course like anything it has its bad days, good days, happy times and sad times.  But, i can honestly say i have no regrets or "wish i should have done" thoughts.  I am very thankful to be here in South Carolina (even though it is far from home) and very thankful to be at SFWC our place of ministry, yeppers, very blessed.  Anyway, what is my latest, multitask queen projects...the Cheese Ball!  Actually it is a Desert Ball, rightfully titled the Chocolate Chip Cheese Ball, I have a comical story concerning my mother-in-law and this Cheese Ball, i wont share it tonight, i will save it for later.  So back to my project.  The Chocolate Chip Cheese Ball is a Cream Cheese based sweet spread with mini chocolate chips mixed in, rolled in pecans and served with graham crackers.  It is delicious and addictive!  This year I have already made 6, some are gifts and some are being sold.  I began the tradition 2 years ago giving my bank one all set on a platter with the graham crackers, and making the nice little treat for church events and our personal family gatherings, well.......from the bank relationship i have actually had a couple of bank tellers ask me to make some for them to purchase!  I was like, sure!!! (I am always looking for ways to make extry $$)  So i am on a Cheese Ball mission,,,,every spare moment i am creaming butter and cream cheese, rolling the yummy spread in pecans and wrapping them in wax paper.  So, for any of my local readers......I am still taking orders, $7.00 each w/graham crackers!  later!

Nov. 8, 2006 - In The Middle

I feel as though I am in the middle of a huge event, like a concert, a conference or broadway play.  I can see all of the actors, backstage workers and audiance at the same time their reactions and emotions.  In my sphere of ministry I often teach about the "cycle"  I talk about how as humanity we need to look at what our "cycle" is, watch our habits, or decisions and investigate as to why we keep coming against the same obstacles.  I also explain that we in our human state will stay on our "cycle" while on this earth, BUT, we must continue to learn from our mistakes, accomplishments and feats.  God the Father wants us to change and grow as we are on our "cycle" not stay the same but become better at life and our abilities He has given us.  So, yesterday while going from Orthadontist to Piano Lesson, to Library  I began to see my "cycle".  Eventhough over the past 15 years of full-time ministry I have learned much about myself, and my limitations, I still proudly proclaim that I am on the potters wheel be formed and molded into a better me everyday! I stood in the middle of my "life concert" and said to myself..."Liz, why do you make stuff such an emotional big deal for yourself".  For me life is full of many things right now, stressfull and not stressfull, but I have to follow my own advice and watch my process. I know it does not seem like such a big epiphany for some, but it is a sign that I am pushing 40 and my life focus is alot different than at 20.  See, I identified my cycle about 7 years ago, but, SO.  Identifying and doing something about it is different!  I have spent 7 years pushing myself to change the "bad" stuff that has been deposited in me either voluntarily or involuntarily.  So thus yesterday....I once again saw a flaw in my "cycle".  My action will be to continue to work on the part of my personality that is sometimes "scattered" and to not feel like such a failure to my family when I don't meet all of "MY" expectations of the day.  Yesterday was stressful, much on my plate, but it is a new day. This homeschooling season that we are in came at such a perfect time for me.  I would have never been able to handle this when my children were younger...I was simply not the person I am today, still being healed from much trama in my life.  But daily I look at my children as we are walking through the "enchanted forest of education" and see future, see warriors, I see products of what I am giving them right now and what I gave them as babies. That gives me good feelings inside and energy to move forward.

Nov. 8, 2006 - My weekend babysitter

Clint and I attended our churches annual couples retreat this past weekend, wow what a weekend!  Whenever we go I am always so torn about coming home, cause being with my husband alone in intamacy of love and friendship that we so rarely get to share on a daily basis is so enjoyable!  But, I miss the kids, I will admit that now that they are older it is not quite as devistating.  I remember when they were smaller I would cry at certain moments or feel empty.  Now I just feel like they may need me, or they miss us.  Weslynn, our special friend and co-leader in minstry at church kept our crew...here is a the link to her blog to get a peek into what she experienced for the weekend.  She truly went above the call of duty to give them a great weekend. http://fromapureheart.blogspot.com/

Also, thank you to Chrisina D. for filling in the gap on Friday night! I never worried once about my munchkins.

Oct. 29, 2006 - Homeschool Shirts

Above is a picture of the back of  the new school shirts I  ordered for the children.  I plan to wear them to the Library and the 3 other field trips we have scheduled for the year.  The front of the shirt has a circle design with the same words that are on the back but inside the circle design. I will have to make a plug for http://www.hstees.com/ a cool website that is connected to a great group of woman who run a cool homeschool community called Homeschool Free Stuff!  Anyway, I think the shirts are so cool and when we go on field trips we wont "loose" anyone!  My children however are not excited, well, my daughter was thrilled to get the shirts but the boys immediately protested and said, "matching shirts, how babyish".  Well perhaps my children have passed their prime of wearing matching shirts, But, I figured because in my four years of homeschooling I had never seen homeschool shirts that I would grab'em up.  Oh well they are only kids once!! I am sure they will hate it, but, if you live in Summerville, South Carolina you will more than likely see my "chills" in their matching shirts!
