I just finished watching this TED Talk video from Sir Ken Robinson called "Do Schools Kill Creativity?" It's incredibly thought-provoking. As homeschoolers, we have so much flexibility to teach to our children's individual intelligences and so much opportunity to foster their creativity. Yet I wonder if we (myself included here) don't get too caught up in the world's goals of education that we end up squelching creativity. Set aside some time to watch this video (it's about 20 minutes), and then leave me your thoughts.
Wow! What are they doing to those poor kids? Yes, I am glad I homeschool. My kids will grow up with a good work ethic, good morals and not need a ribbon to know they are smart, creative, intelligent, and beautiful individuals. Thank you for sharing the information. It helps re-enforce my convictions!
I received the ear warmer yesterday, and it's lovely. Thank you so much. Now, I'm off to find your "Pass it on" post and take photos of the scarf I'll offer.
It is something how they have taken things out of the schools when they proved years ago that it was helpful in development. So sad, really. Music, art... even replacing them with a gaming section in the classroom. Hmmm Great post.
In the last 2 months, the Holy Spirit has really been waking me up about letting Him lead. I was so caught up in the traditional education that I was smothering my kids. I still tend towards that, but with the cautions and turns of the Holy Spirit. It's been freeing to see where they lean their creativities.
Thanks for visiting me the other day and dropping a note of encouragement. I really appreciated it.
Musings on life as a homeschooler in a charter-school oriented community, as a Christian in a highly un-churched community, and as I live day to day while looking forward to my "forever" hope.
