My life is about to change. This week my son started baseball again - practices three times a week for now. In a few weeks, his team will start playing games, some against the other 2 teams in our local Little League and others against teams from nearby towns. But I'm excited. I love baseball! I'm thrilled to have a son who plays the game! (And, I might add, plays it well.)
His dad took him to his first practice tonight. It looks like they're going to have a really good team this year. One of the telling moments was when my husband asked why one of the coaches had a football with him. Apparently they usually spend time during the first few practices playing catch with a football so the boys learn/remember to catch with both hands. But they didn't need it tonight because all the boys were catching properly!
This is J's first year in the AAA division - the first year for kids pitching and stealing bases and an All-Star team in the summer. About half of the team is new to AAA and half are in their second year. He gets to play for a coach who was one of his first Little League coaches 3 years ago - a great guy who helps teach the skills really well and focuses on having fun more than winning. It should be a fun and interesting season. And something pretty cool for us - J is one of 3 homeschooled boys on his team.
Oh, and guess who has already volunteered to keep score? Yes, I'm following in my mom's footsteps. |
