I love to travel. One of the things I like best about homeschooling is the opportunity is that we can take vacations at off-times (and not have to go during the summer when everyone else is vacationing). I'm fortuntate to have grown up in Maryland - not far from Washington, DC - and since we still have family in the area, we can take our children to see much of our nation's historical monuments there from time to time. But I want them to be able to see Boston, Philadelphia, and many other places where history was made! I would love to take them to Greece, Rome, Egypt and some of the world's other great historical sites.

So am I one of the few travel nuts out there, or are there others who dream crazy dreams like I do? What would you consider an awesome homeschool field trip?

I can remember telling my parents -- "I will learn a new language then travel to that country to use it. Then come home and learn a new language."

LOL

Are you learning any new languages, then traveling to countries who speak that language? We are only learning some greek words right now... I guess Greece would make a nice vacation. =)

To answer your question... we don't travel much. Never out of the country... hardly out of the mid-west. Boring... I know.

I am absolutely a travel nut. I was blessed to grow up in a family that traveled extensively through the US and I even got to spend my Jr. year of high school in Germany. Our kids are at great ages for travel now. We're planning to go to Williamsburg this spring and then hope to hit a few Civil War sites (including Gettysburg) this summer. Wish we could travel a whole lot more, but, well, it's expensive!

Come play my spring contest when you have a chance!

Boston was really good. We are hoping to have enough frequent flyer miles and hotel nights to make Hawaii in a few short years. Shane has always wanted to see Mt. Rushmore... I would like to be a world traveler, but it's a little nerve wracking to think about being out of the "safe" borders of our country.
Have a blessed day,
Christin

Boston was pretty good, we are saving frequent flyer miles and hotel points to try for Hawaii in a few short years. Shane has always wanted to see Mt. Rushmore. I would love to do some overseas travelling, but being out of our "safe" borders does make me a little nervous. The older I get the more I like things the same...

In December we did a week in Minneapolis. Amazing museums! Don't miss the Mill City Museum and the Minneapolis Institute of Arts.

In K, we took a month long road trip tour of the east coast. Visiting, NC, Philly, DC, Cape Cod, among others. Way fun!

We have plans (though I don't know exactly when) of going to San Miguel de Allende (about 170 miles north of Mexico City) for a month to study Spanish.

However, I have to admit that the close to home trips are sometimes even more valuable. Friday, we had to rush our dog to the vet hospital an hour away. Mason got a tour and tons of info from the vets and vet students. Today, he watched the concrete guys work on the foundation of our new home in the country. He came home and wrote up all the questions he wants to ask them on the next work day.

We just had a great trip in December that was one of my dreams. We saw two Brazilian national parks. I would love to go to the Holy Land and Egypt some day. I would also like to explore old castles in Europe. My boys love knights and castles.

Being a missionary we get to travel a lot. We really enjoyed seeing the sites in whatever area we were in. We seen DC and Rushmore, Florida and New Mexico.
Now that we live in Europe we have seen many countries, they are all so close together in this part of Europe it's just like driving from one town to another.

I'm sure your kids are going to reap richly from seeing so much.

I've enjoyed your blog and I'll be back!

We like to travel. We had an awesome vacation in Oct last year. It is still in my blog archives. We left KY and did 13 states and 2 Providences in Canada. It was a great trip. I want us to head out west next.
