Thursday 15 January 2009 - So Much Blog, So Little Brain

So much to blog about, so little brain with which to do it.

Some of my bloggy friends lament that they haven't had enough to blog about.  That is not the problem here.  The problem is the brain-to-computer connection.

I have numerous bloggable thoughts rattling around in my noggin which will never see the light of day.  Some have actually been written out in my head ("head-blogs", I call them) and some are just collections of random thoughts that have not gelled into a cohesive or coherent post, but regardless of status, few if any will actually make it onto the computer.

Some make it onto the computer and get halfway finished or even 81.7% finished before I either fall asleep at the keyboard (this happens a lot) or get called away by that thing called life.  Others don't get finished because I sit there and stare at them and cannot come up with the right ending for my thoughts.  Whatever the reason, they sit there unfinished and will sit forever because (a) they are now outdated, (b) I have lost interest, (c) other posts have come along and pushed them out of the way, or (d) I just haven't made up my mind to finish and post them.

This is exciting isn't it?  I've posted these sorts of thoughts before, haven't I?

So anyway, here's what you guys have missed out on lately:

*Christmas pics, including the great Stuff That Hubz Built, Version 08.

*Putting Away Christmas, complete with pictures.

*A great Wordless Wednesday called "The Life Cycle of a Christmas Tree".

*A link to a great (now month-old) post by my cousin Jesse.  (A link.  How hard is it to post a link?  I could have, if I hadn't kept trying to write intros in my brain.)

*Why a Bored And Stir-Crazy Spaz is not a good thing.

*Why homeschooling is even more difficult and disrupted when Hubz, aka Spaz Senior, does not have enough heat or enough work in his shop.  (Hint; he keeps coming into the house.)

*A random ABSee photo meme post of Pipecleaner People, Pajama Pants, and Pepperoni Pizza Pockets.  (I decided to just stick with alphabetical order btw.  Yes, I know you knew I would.)

*Bananagrams.  (You may get that one tomorrow, if I can manage an ABSee post.)

*Musings about our family's current economic crisis and one good result of it and a certain old song that helps to put it all in perspective.  (That one almost got finished and posted on Monday.  Almost.)

*A couple rather humorous quotes from Spaz & Fuzz.

*Hubz' humorous diagnosis (not) of my computer's recent 'issues".

*Musings while driving home from photography class on how easy it is to live life on "Auto".

*A post inspired by a fellow blogger (see, I'm too lazy to even link) on all the stuff I have never done in my life, like owning a DVR or setting foot west of Minneapolis.  (....or painting daisies on a big red rubber ball...)

*Books we read for "school" last fall.

*The history schedule I just wrote up for the next couple months.  (Oh, doesn't that sound horribly exciting?)

*Random comments on IEW and why writing with Spaz sucks up all my energy and why I am not using the recommended fable called "The Salt Merchant and His Ass."

That's just the recent stuff.

Oh, and let's not forget...

*A myriad of life-at-the-WACKOS posts, many beginning with the same thought: "An ADD Mom homeschooling an ADHD kid is SUCH a bad idea."

Which sort of sums up the lack of time & brain cells, I think.

Anyway, I feel better at least getting all that out there.

That's all I got for ya today.  Aren't you just so glad you stopped by to read my incoherent ramblings?

I love your incoherent ramblings! Maybe it's because I can SO relate. Oh! You are so right about that green/blue thing. I did it quick on a break at work using my notebook. It seems my notebook has softer colors then our home desktops! It's terrible on the desktops! And why did the snowflakes come back? Lol, they were removed and don't show up on the notebook. Weird. I'll get it fixed soon.

As for tattoos, once they turn 18, they are legal and we can't stop them. So far I've gotten lucky and my 18yo has only talked about it and dropped off her artwork to the tattoo artist. I've been trying to convince her that she is TOO fickle for a permanent tattoo. I've even offered to do it in henna so it will only last one month. So far, she hasn't done it. Whew.

So what I'm thinking as I read this is that we need a USB port for our heads. A "USBrain" if you will. That way we can transfer thoughts as easily as we can upload and organize pictures from our digital cameras.

Never mind. I know what happens after I upload pictures from my camera. Nothing. :o)

RYC: OK, I used the t-word. How about conducting? I conduct learning. Initiate learning? Incite learning?
Maybe I'll stick with being motivational. I'm an educational motivator.

Peace and Laughter!

Rambling is such fun, and incoherent rambling is even more fun. Because I'll either feel super smart for actually understanding it or I'll feel totally wonky crazy b/c I realize that your thought are like my thoughts (although your ways are not my ways, saith.. wait, I better stop or I'll feel all sacreligious or something- did I even use that word right?).

Moving right along..

I totally understand about head posts and them not actually getting posted. I have so much running around in my head (and in incoherent draft form) that it's overwhelming to even try to post. Currently, all the pictures in my camera are tentative blog posts (from pancake mix in a can to not-so-tasty black bottom cupcakes). Why do I always think about food?

Oh and we're listening to On the Banks of Plum Creek on audio CD in the car. (I love the library.) That's the only way the boys would ever pay attention to a "girly" story- girly b/c there's a pic of a girl on the cover.

Rezident (and Not-So-Rezident) WACKOS...

"Hubz" (48):
Self-employed entrepreneur who works from his shop next to our house. Has I-don't-know-HOW-many businesses simmering on one burner or another. Tho' a talented woodworker, he currently works mostly with plastics, designing & building displays. Enjoys building creative furniture for the kids when time & energy allow. Hobby consists of taking kids on dates; eats & sleeps in his spare time.

The "Miz" (44):
Oh, like you need a description of me. Read the blog!

And the kidz...

"Biz" (Son 22):
Recent college grad, living with friends. Deciding whether to teach English abroad in the fall or buy a house. Enjoys reading, writing, computer & video games, music, hanging with friends, travelling. Occasionally stops by the house for a good meal. :-).
*Homeschooled thru 6th grade, plus 8th grade.*

"Cheez" (Daughter 18+):
Recent high-school grad, working full-time this summer. Hopes to eventually write and travel, perhaps at the same time. Enjoys reading, writing, superfluous vocabulary, and the piano. Definitely her own person.
*Homeschooled thru 8th grade.*

"Spaz" (Son 13++):
Highly sociable, sensitive, makes friends with anyone. Struggles with ADH issues, but charming & loved by many! Plays rocket football in the fall and watches pro & college ball all winter. Loves to read, learn, make up his own arrangements on piano, tease his sister, make interesting things out of Legos, and :P play video/computer games.
*Has always home-schooled.*

"Fuzz" (Daughter 10++):
Artistic, musical, highly creative. Sweet, sensitive, very "on top of things", routine-oriented, stubborn. Great policeman & back-seat driver! Loves piano, reading, drawing, making stuff, creative playing, and anything "Little House". Asks great questions & makes great observations.
*Has always home-schooled.*

What Type of Homeschooler Are You?

Well, here's MY description:
Over 16 years of homeschooling, I've evolved to a less formal, Charlotte Mason-ish eclectic approach with a more-or-less classical bent. (Isn't that clear as mud?) My goal is to light the fires of learning and creativity in my kids. I emphasize history & literature because we enjoy them, and I incorporate informal language arts into much of what we do.

Er, yeah. That's how it's SUPPOSED to go. The reality of it is...
After 16 years of homeschooling, I have yet to really figure out how to do it. So we muddle along, overemphasizing history and almost sort of neglecting science, and I spend way too much time making plans that we don't stick to anyway. We read a lot, and we like words, and we don't manage our time very well, and sometimes I yell.

And here's how quizilla sees it:

Mr. Potato Head:
"You have your ideal of how things should look, but you're flexible enough to allow for change. You are not bothered by changing methods, mid-course if necessary. You use an eclectic combination of curriculum sources."

Um, yeah, that works, for the most part.
