Thursday 22 January 2009 - Head Blogging

I have blogged in my head since I was a little kid.  Only I didn't know then that it was blogging.  But God knew.  Before the internet was ever formed, when it was just a speck in Al Gore's eye, even then I was destined to be a blogger.  Or something.

Not that you'd know that from coming here.  I can (and do) blog in my head all day long, but posting is a different story.  The words and phrases that flow so freely through my brain during the day somehow manage to dry up and disappear when at last I sit at the keyboard.

Ah, for a wireless brain-to-computer connection, to download my headblogs while they are still fresh and vital, before evening falls and brain cells scatter.  I am not the only blogger who longs for such.  *Sigh*  Lacking that, we can only hope for that ever-elusive confluence of blog and brain, of simultaneous free time and mental energy.  Alas, in my case, the twain rarely meet.  When I have the one, I have not the other.  As is evidenced, I suppose, by rambling, incoherent posts such as this one.

Back to that first paragraph.  How about you?  Do you blog in your head all day long?  And have you always done this?  Or am I just weird?

(Don't answer the last question.)

That is so funny. I feel like I could have written that post. All day long I think to myself-Oh! I am going to write that on my blog tonight. Then when I finally sit down at the computer my mind is blank. That doesn't necessarily mean you aren't wierd, but at least we are both wierdos.

Yes, actually, I do blog in my head quite a bit. When I was growing up, I used to imagine my life was one big, long movie, like there was always a camera on me. If I'd developed that imagination into a profitable reality, I'd have made big bucks, just like a lot of losers have on TV these days (at least, that's what I've read about!)

By the way, my current HSB title is "Me, Myself and AL", as in "Alexander Hamilton", the book I mentioned in my first paragraph. I just used "AL" for short. My son is Alec and I often refer to him as Al. But that's not relevant, is it? Sorry that the lower case "l" looks like an upper case "I". Like our lives need any more complications!

Have a good weekend!

It's "callmekate" again - I meant to tell you that I also gave "Bananagrams" to my daughter for Christmas and we love it! I play it alone if I can't get anyone to play but usually someone is up for it. I love "Scrabble" but this is much more interesting to me. And my 7 year old daughter doesn't realize just how much spelling she is learning - even better!

I keep a legal pad full of bloggy notes, and then I type all my stuff in a word document first. That helps to give me space. I can put ideas down, as many as I want, and develop them when I see fit and maybe eventually even post them.

me?

yes.

yes...hmm...

I pretty much live my life in my head; I think about things so much that I am frequently astonished to discover I have not actually done them.

You cannot possibly be any weirder than that!

I haven't lately, as I find myself very distracted with my stressful life. BUT, I certainly have in the past. Then I forget it all and write nothing. :()

I think you've found an outlet for your creativity. In this case: Blogging. So posting in your head is fine...and having a brain to computer thing would be very "Matrix"-like. I've decided what I need is a voice recorder that types everything for me...or maybe a stenographer.

Would it be self-serving of me to teach my kids how to be my secretarY?

Oh, that is sooo not just you. I blog in my head all day, every day, and then want to hurl my computer out the window when I sit down to immortalize my witty, brilliant thoughts, only to find my mind blank. Yep, yep, yep, blogging sure is a love/hate thing.

What Type of Homeschooler Are You?

Well, here's MY description:
Over 16 years of homeschooling, I've evolved to a less formal, Charlotte Mason-ish eclectic approach with a more-or-less classical bent. (Isn't that clear as mud?) My goal is to light the fires of learning and creativity in my kids. I emphasize history & literature because we enjoy them, and I incorporate informal language arts into much of what we do.

Er, yeah. That's how it's SUPPOSED to go. The reality of it is...
After 16 years of homeschooling, I have yet to really figure out how to do it. So we muddle along, overemphasizing history and almost sort of neglecting science, and I spend way too much time making plans that we don't stick to anyway. We read a lot, and we like words, and we don't manage our time very well, and sometimes I yell.

And here's how quizilla sees it:

Mr. Potato Head:
"You have your ideal of how things should look, but you're flexible enough to allow for change. You are not bothered by changing methods, mid-course if necessary. You use an eclectic combination of curriculum sources."

Um, yeah, that works, for the most part.
