Tuesday 3 March 2009 - Life's Rough

My inkjet printer/copier/scanner has had issues for several weeks, so when I want to make copies of history maps or grammar pages, I have to trek fifty feet in the frigid March air out to Hubz' shop to make my copies on his fancy-schmancy printer.

My laser printer, on the other hand, is working fine, but the computer it's normally connected to isn't. So rather than hit Print from my comfy chair and have the printer spit out the kids' daily checklists from across the room, I now have to sit at the desk and plug the printer into my laptop.

How much more inconvenient can things possibly get? Life's rough, I tell ya.

(Yes, despite all the interesting and worthwhile posts bobbing around in my brain, this is all you get for today. Sorry.)

I feel your pain!
I have two printers hooked up to the "good" computer. The school computer is no longer connected to the internet. But if N needs to write something on Word in there, he has to come get the small printer and carry it back there and plug it in.
I know you are sad.

Sometimes it's the little things that sting the most, like paper cuts. Though this is more like a frequent annoyance, so maybe a blister?

I see you one faulty printing program and raise you one hormonal laptop. I'm up to no less than 2,786 ways I'd like to smash it to bits on a DAILY basis. "I want a new iMac" (sung to the tune of "I want my MTV"). Life is rough indeed.

as someone who has to trudge up 9, count them, 9 stairs from my computer in the school room to Devastatingly Handsome's in the kitchen. I actually have to email things to that computer because DH can't get the wireless print thing to work. Life is rough indeed.

I feel for you. We lost our printer last summer. It wasn't even that old. Now I have a clunky older printer that a friend passed on to me. It takes about ten minutes for it to be ready after you turn it on and when it does finally decide to print, it looks like someone chewed holes in all the words. Which is fine if, say, I'm sending in our quarterly reports, but not so good when I actually want something readable. :o)

Maybe you could move your comfy chair closer to the printer. Just a suggestion.

Peace and Laughter,
Cristina

RYC- My mother's friend is a guidance counselor at a girls' school. They do a trip to Europe every year through EF tours. She invited my mom to come along and bring Marina. Some opportunities can't be passed up, even if they do throw life into utter turmoil. :o) I lost a babysitter and sibling referee for ten days, but she gained experiences I only dreamed about at her age!

Peace and Laughter,
Cristina

What Type of Homeschooler Are You?

Well, here's MY description:
Over 16 years of homeschooling, I've evolved to a less formal, Charlotte Mason-ish eclectic approach with a more-or-less classical bent. (Isn't that clear as mud?) My goal is to light the fires of learning and creativity in my kids. I emphasize history & literature because we enjoy them, and I incorporate informal language arts into much of what we do.

Er, yeah. That's how it's SUPPOSED to go. The reality of it is...
After 16 years of homeschooling, I have yet to really figure out how to do it. So we muddle along, overemphasizing history and almost sort of neglecting science, and I spend way too much time making plans that we don't stick to anyway. We read a lot, and we like words, and we don't manage our time very well, and sometimes I yell.

And here's how quizilla sees it:

Mr. Potato Head:
"You have your ideal of how things should look, but you're flexible enough to allow for change. You are not bothered by changing methods, mid-course if necessary. You use an eclectic combination of curriculum sources."

Um, yeah, that works, for the most part.
