"So, have the Titans fallen for our little scheme?"

The voice was cool, dark and menacing as it ripped through the eerie silence of the chamber, and could almost be described as that belonging to a snake. It emanated from a girl who stood shrouded in shadow, the only visible part of her being the glowing crystal which hung around her neck.

"Hook, line, and sinker," came the answer from a man whom we know as Slade.

"Good. Then everything is going according to our plan - you get your apprentice, I get my prize."

"Precisely. By the time my dear niece discovers the real cure, it will be far too late for her and her new friends."

"And when do you complete your part of the bargain?"

"Patience, my dear, Nightingale, patience. Rome was not built in a day, and the Titans cannot be torn down in a week. Things like this take time."

"Time is something you have plenty of. That athelas crystal should keep you alive for a good long while - long enough for us both to get what we want."

"Yes. Soon the Titans will be out of our way forever."

~

Robin handed Raynea a stack of blankets and a pillow. For the first time that night(or was it morning?) they found themselves alone. All the other Titans had already gone back to bed.

"How do I know that you're really going to stay this time?" Robin asked, his voice tight.

She did not meet his gaze. "I said I would, didn't I?"

"Yeah, well, that's the exact same thing you said to me the night you left Gotham!" He turned and stalked angrily from the room, leaving Raynea alone in the dark.

Or not completely alone.

Lynette flattened herself against the wall as Robin went past. He did not notice her, but she had overheard everything.

Nov. 6, 2008 - Deathly Still - Posted By: Erika

Robin, Starfire, Cyborg and the others began talking about Slade and the antidote. Raven gave Beast Boy the " Shut up or you'll be sorry " look.
Erika had a sly look in her eyes as she put her helmet back on.

" Yes, I can do that, but it only works on the weak minded. All I'd have to do is wave my hand, like this," Beast Boy watched, intrigued as she motioned with her hand,  "and say something, like,
' You are Slade.' " Beast Boy got a funny look on his face, then said, " I am Slade." He then turned to Robin and pounced. " Wha...?" shouted Robin, nearly toppling over. Beast Boy clutched Robin's legs as The Boy Wonder began hopping about the room. Starfire was giggling, Cyborg gaffawing, the Wolf Pack looking confused and Raven and Witness looked on silently triumphant.

Erika laughed as Robin jumped past. Beast Boy as a boa began slithering up Robin. Erika decided that it was a good time to stop.  "Hey Slade Boy! You're Beast Boy!"  The green teen let go of Robin, slightly dazed.

Robin sighed and glared at Erika. " Sorry, he asked," she said.
The teenagers regained their composure, and began to discuss the situation at hand.  " We should sneak into Slade's place and steal the dang thing."  announced Cyborg.  " Or we could try to make one," said the one called White Wolf.  " Or you could give me up" whispered Lynette. They all yelled " NO!" at the same time.  "Nobody's giving him or herself to Slade." glowered Robin, " Even IF we get an antidote, we need to isolate the people who have it, and everyone in the city, " there was a pause, then Erika said, "After we get an antidote, or steal it from Mister Melancholy, the best way to help people to recover from the disease is to use bacta."

Everyone turned to the Jedi, confused. Oops, thought Erika. " Uh, it's a chemical that is like a super healing fluid..."  "And what's it made of?" said the ever curious Beast Boy. " it's made of red alazhi and  kavam bacterial particles mixed with ambori," she replied. One of the Wolves made a face, and Raven rolled her eyes and said " O-kay... what ever THAT means."   Robin resumed, " First we have to get an antidote."  " I vouch we take it from Slade," said Witness.

Nov. 5, 2008 - A Price We Won't Pay - Posted By: Julia

Wolf Woman was shocked, but more than that she was confused. Who were these three? The Jedi she'd seen before, but even with her helmet off she didn't recognize her. Robin seemed to know the black-clothed girl, and ever since he saw her he'd been tense. And then there was the blond girl with the red eyes. What had Robin said? "Go back to your room"? She lives here?

She couldn't stand not knowing, but it had to wait. There was something much more important here: Ebola. She shuddered, there was no cure and no way to know if she might possibly have it. It might be spreading to everyone in the room without anyone knowing it.

She was just about to say something when the main computer beeped. Robin and White Wolf walked over to the computer. "There's a message here." White Wolf said. "Should we view it?"

Robin looked back at the Jedi and Witness, then looked back at White Wolf, "Go ahead."

White Wolf pushed a button and the message went up on the big screen. It was Slade.

"Hello, Titans." His half bronze, half black mask appeared on the screen. Wolf Woman saw the girl Robin had called Lynette take two steps back. “I believe that you’ve heard of the city’s…dilemma by now. I think I have something that might interest you: the antidote for Ebola.”

“There is no antidote,” Raven said, “It’s been researched for decades and no one has found it yet.”

“But I have. Why else would I still be in this city that’s soon to become a graveyard? I have the antidote, and for a price you can have it too.”

“Most likely a price too high.” Robin said.

“That’s for you to decide, Robin. Which is worth more: the lives of everyone in the city, or my old apprentice, Monster?”

Robin’s eyes narrowed, “You think I know where she is? She ran off after all you did to her, and I haven’t heard from Monster since.”

“Perhaps. Perhaps not. Just remember, Robin, the lives of everyone in this city rest in the hand of whoever holds the antidote. And right now that’s me.” The screen went blank.

Wolf Woman could take being in the dark no longer, “Robin, what was that all about? Who is Monster?” she gestured at the three girls, “Who are you three?”

The Jedi girl shrugged, “I’m just about as lost as you are. I just came to check out the Tower.”

“I’m Monster.” Lynette stepped forward, “I was once in Slade’s employ and was rescued by Robin and the others. The reason you three didn’t know about me, Wolf Pack, is because I’ve been kept a secret ever since I got out of Slade’s employ. I’ve been hoping that he’d forget about me, but apparently that isn’t the case. But I don’t know why I didn’t know about you three,” she shot a look at Robin.

“I didn’t know whether or not the Wolves could be trusted before. I knew that if you knew about them you’d want to meet them, and we” he gestured towards the other Titans, “didn’t think that was a good idea until we knew they could be trusted.”

“Excuse me?” Witness said, “I just came to bring you guys a message. Now that it’s been delivered I’d like to leave.”

“You do not want to help us as we try to stop the Ebola?” Starfire asked.

“I work alone.” she stated simply.

“It wasn’t always that way, though.” Robin said. “We’re going to need everyone’s help if we’re going to get the antidote from Slade. So, Witness and…”

“Erika,” the Jedi supplied.

“Erika. I’m asking the two of you to help us. There is no way we’re giving Lynette back to Slade. But we’re not going to stand around waiting for Ebola to take us all.”

“I’m in!” Erika said enthusiastically. “It’s not like I can go home right now anyways. I may have Ebola right now and I would give it to them as well.”

All eyes turned to Witness. “I told you, I work alone.”

“That’s too bad, Witness,” Cyborg said, “Because if you’re not with us I’m going to have to lock you up for intruding on my Tower.”

Witness rolled her eyes. “All right. But I’m not joining the team. I’m just helping.”

“That’s all we’re asking.” Robin said.

There was silence, then Beastboy looked over at Erika with puppy-dog eyes, “So, you’re a Jedi, huh? Can you do that ‘wave your hand and they obey you’ thing?”

Oct. 30, 2008 - A Terrible Revelation - Posted By: Lynette

"What are you doing here, Lynette?" Robin demanded. "Go back to your room! We'll handle this!"
"Robin, who are these people?" Lynette pleaded to know as her blood-red eyes scanned the five unfamiliar faces in the room. One looked angry, almost defiant; another had a tickled look on her face; and two of the wolves looked almost as confused as Lynette herself was. The one with the howling wolf insignia had a kind face, as if she were merely wondering, trying to guess who this new person might be.
"They're Titans," Robin said finally. "At least, the Wolves are. The other two..." He trailed off as his eyes locked with those of the girl trapped in Cyborg's steel clutches. He looked as if he were about to say something to her, but he clamped his mouth shut instead and turned away. "Better keep a good hold on her, Cyborg," he said. "She's more slippery than you'd think."
Suddenly the Witness spoke. "Robin, I'm not here to get involved with you or your team. I'm here because something bad is about to happen. Something that even you and all the Titans in the world can't stop. And it's much much worse than any supervillain you've ever dealt with."
"And what is that?" Robin lashed out at her.
Witness narrowed her eyes into tiny slits. "It arrived on the 9:30 train four hours ago," she said darkly. "Its name is Ebola."
*********************
Robin, Lynette, and several of the others froze as soon as they heard the name, including Cyborg. "You've got to be joking!" he said in obvious disbelief.
"If you knew me well enough, tin man, you'd know that I never joke," the Witness answered witheringly. "Yes, you all know the name, don't you? Ebola is a very serious matter, not to be toyed with. I know what I'm talking about.
"A man named Trevor Densley arrived in Jump City tonight on military leave from Africa. Unbeknownst to him, he'd been bitten by an Ades Aegypti mosquito that carried a deadly strain of the virus. As most of us will know-" here she cast a doubtful look in Beast Boy's direction- "there is no cure or vaccine for it. Within a week, Jump City will be tottering on the brink of the most horrible disease known to man."
"Can't we stop the outbreak?" Raven asked. "This Densley guy is, after all, from the military. Surely he'll understand a quarantine."
Witness shook her head. "The epidemic has already been set into motion," she said demurely. "Before he even set foot into the train station, Densley had infected at least a dozen, possibly two or three dozen, people by contact alone. It's too late."
Lynette turned white. She knew what the Ebola virus was capable of. It burst blood vessels, murdered live tissue, and triggered bleeding from the inside out. The blood would seep through the mouth, nose, and eyes and into the skin, reminding one of innumerable horror flicks - the only difference being the Ebola was horrifyingly real. It was so fatal that, beyond the shadow of any doubt, its coming heralded that of the grim reaper.
"Isn't there anything we can do?" Wolf Woman asked, searching for even the tiniest glimmer of hope.
"We can pray," the Witness replied grimly.

Oct. 28, 2008 - A Mystery Unfolds - Posted By: Raynea

Raynea stared malignantly at the intruder, her icy gaze taking in every detail, every piece of the armor and weaponry. She'd been watching from the shadows when this girl had alighted on the roof and climbed into the tower; in fact, Raynea had been watching the Titans' every move for quite some time now, staying in the dark while the unsuspecting teenagers went about thier daily activites. But she didn't reveal herself. Not  yet...

But the stranger had already seen her somehow. She turned off the video game she'd been playing and turned to look at her surroundings. Now was the time to come out, Raynea told herself. So she emerged from the darkness with a laser gun at the ready, her suspicious look still intact.

"So, what're you doing in the tower at this time of night?" she asked.

"I could ask you the same question," the stranger returned, pulling a lightsaber from her belt. "Who are you, anyway?"

"You can call me The Witness," Raynea replied. "That's the best you're gonna get, unless you tell me what you're doing in the tower! You're not a Titan, that's for sure."

"You're not either," the girl said defensively. Then a look of recognition passed over her face as the glow from her lightsaber revealed Raynea's face. It was half hidden from view by a black bandanna.

"Waitaminnit," the girl said suddenly. "I have seen you before! You were with the Titans when my brother hijacked the Batmobile!"

"Not with them," Raynea corrected morosely. "I was there."

"Isn't - that the same thing?" the girl said in a puzzled tone. Just then, to make a bad situation even worse, three teenagers dressed as wolves burst into the room by way of a window. Raynea did not move, as if she'd been expecting them.

"Stop right there!" one of them yelled. "Wait, who's the other girl?"

"Not sure," said another. "I haven't seen her before."

Raynea narrowed her eyes as the newcomers stared at her in bewilderment. After a moment of awkward silence, the armored girl spoke suddenly: "OK, OK, will someone PLEASE tell me what is going on here! This girl is wierd enough! But then you guys bust in! Who are you?"

"We're the Wolf Pack," said one of them. "I'm White Wolf, this is Grey Wolf, and she's Wolf Woman. And you are?"

"A Mandolorian Jedi," she said promptly. "But you can call me Erika-" Just as she said that, she bumped into a spot on the wall where Cyborg had installed a control panel. Immediately a red light flashed and a loud noise blared through the tower.

"You idiot!" yelled Raynea. "You just set off the alarm! Now we're all in for it!"

Sounds of running feet echoed through the corridor outside. A very sleepy-looking band of Titans entered the room, ready for anything, mostly Slade. But when they were met by the sight of five guilty-looking superheroes, they just stood there in surprise.

Robin turned on the light. "Wolf Pack? What are you guys doing here?" he wondered. "And who are the other-" He stopped as he recognized the strangers. One had shown up last time he was in Gotham City. And the other made him turn white, as if he'd seen a ghost.

"Witness?"

As the word escaped his lips, Raynea made a bolt for the door. "Oh, no you don't!" yelled Cyborg, grabbing her by the back of her shirt as she sped by. "Nobody breaks into MY tower and gets away with it!"

At that moment, a skinny blonde girl walked into the doorway. "Guys?" she asked timidly. "What's going on?"

Oct. 27, 2008 - Four Heros: Part Three - Posted By: Erika

Erika flew over the city. It was a quiet night. The moon was bright and the harbor calm.

This is nice, she thought,
I'm glad I could take the night off, no droids, no giant bugs, and no evil dudes.

She had come this way to see where the Teen Titans lived. She looked at the huge building through her helmet. It looked like the letter "T". I wonder why, she thought facetiously.

She flew over to the top of the tower, and did a scan of the roof. She laughed to herself. Not very hi-tech, I thought Cyborg and Robin would have a little more than sonic cannons and lasers.

She landed on the rooftop, careful of pressure sensitive plates, and walked over to the opening leading into the tower. She paused to listen to a wolf howl and wondered why there would be a wolf anywhere near here before climbing down. She walked into the living room, and went to the fridge that was nearby. I'm starving! That shape shifter is supposed to be vegan, I wonder if he has anything I could eat. She went through the fridge, looking for gluten, animal and sugar free food. She found only vegetables and some talking tofu. She sighed, grabbed a carrot and shoved the tofu in the trash can. She put a dollar bill in the vegetable's spot and munched on the carrot as she made her way to the couch.

She listened to the sound of someone wandering around a few floors up. Then something caught her eye. Hey look, Super Mario Brothers 3! I love that game! She grabbed a controller and was about to turn it on when she heard another wolf howl, or what seemed to be a fairly good impression of one. She turned the game on and beat Cyborg and Beast Boy's high score. She giggled, then stopped. She felt someone through the Force who was not far away. Erika switched the electronics off and waited for that somebody to come out.

In the shadows, there lurked a figure clothed in black...

Oct. 27, 2008 - Questions and Howling - Posted By: Julia

Julia was restless. Her mind kept straying back to the way Robin had acted earlier in the day. She didn’t understand it, none of the Wolves did.

The Titans had discovered that Robin's archenemy, Slade, was back. Whenever Slade was mentioned Robin got a strange look in his eyes (she could tell even though he had a mask).
I’ll have to ask him about that tomorrow.

After a few minutes more of trying to sleep, Julia finally gave up. She quickly changed into her Wolf costume, went over to the window and got out onto the roof. After closing the window, she gracefully jumped to the ground. She pushed a button on her utility belt that called her Wolf Board. Within seconds the board reached her and she got on and headed for Titans Tower.

As she was on her way there she thought about her time with the Titans so far. She and the other Wolves had only been official Titans for a week. The other Titans had been working on making three rooms for their newest members, but they weren’t quite finished yet. But it didn’t matter to her, she couldn’t sleep there anyways, for her parents would get suspicious. That’s something I don’t need, she thought.

When she finally got to the Tower, she was surprised to find Grey Wolf outside it. He was running around in circles in his wolf form. Is he chasing his tail? She shook her head at her silly friend.

As she landed Grey Wolf collapsed onto his left side, panting heavily. When he noticed Wolf Woman, he changed into his human form, “I don’t know how dogs can do this all the time! Chasing my tail wiped me out!”

She smiled and sat next to her friend, “Guess you’ll just have to practice.”

“You’re making fun of me!”

“Maybe.”

“Maybe you’re just jealous of me, huh?” He said jokingly, “Bet you can’t do this:” he transformed into a wolf again and he gave out a long, haunting howl.

Julia remembered back to when the black alpha wolf heard her singing and howled for her. She remembered his beautiful voice as clearly as if it had happened five minutes ago. When Grey Wolf was done she said, “Give me a minute.” She concentrated hard and then gave her best wolf-howl, basing it off of the alpha wolf’s howl.

When she was done, Grey Wolf turned back to his normal self, “Pretty good for a human,” he complimented.

“Thank-you.”

Just then, White Wolf ran up to them. “Guys!”

“What is it, White Wolf?” Grey Wolf asked.

“Yeah, what’s wrong?”

“Do you remember when the Bat-mobile was hi-jacked and we all went chasing after it?”

“How could we forget?” Grey Wolf groaned.

“Yeah, especially since the one who did it was younger than us.”

“And then there was that girl that stopped him,” Grey Wolf continued, “The one in what looked like a bounty-hunter’s suit.”

White Wolf nodded, “The two of them were using some sort of communication device, and while we were chasing after the Bat-mobile I got the signal on my Wolf Computer in my left glove.”

“Sweet.” Grey Wolf said.

“Yeah, well I just picked up it’s signal nearby!”

“So one of them-”

“-Or both.” Grey Wolf interrupted.

“-is nearby?” Wolf Woman finished her question.

“Unless my computer is malfunctioning, yes.”

Oct. 26, 2008 - Sleepless Night - Posted By: Lynette

Lynette couldn't sleep. The Titans had recently spotted Slade in the West Harbor, and the fear that he would finally catch up to her and steal her away again kept her restless and uneasy.

She rolled over and sat up. "We won't let him get his hands on you," Robin had said. "Don't worry." So why was she worried still? Maybe a story will ease my mind, Lynette thought. Yeah, most likely.

She rubbed her eyes wearily and walked over to the small table in her room where she kept her laptop. Switching it on, Lynette started to work on her newest story idea,- a girl and a dragon who were trying to take over the world. Just as she was getting absorbed in her train of thought, an eerie sound, indistinct and faraway, broke through the complete silence of the sleeping tower.

Lynette listened hard, but when the sound did not repeat itself she shrugged and turned back to the computer. Now that her thoughts had been interrupted, she'd ran into writer's block and couldn't think of what to write next. So she got online and signed into her Homeschoolblogger account. One of her friends, padawan16, was writing a story about a town called Tombstone. The story was very intriguing, but the moment she heard the sound again, she couldn't ignore it.

      This time it was unmistakable.

      Was that a...wolf...howling? Surely not.
