Focussed Praying...

I have always struggled in my prayer life. There are so many needs and so many people to pray for that I couldn't cover them all on a regular basis without praying for hours or wondering who or what I left out. My mind would wander and I'd usually find myself out in left field somewhere not even remembering what it is I was just praying about.

This weekend I stumbled upon an idea while looking through Dinah Zike's book of Science. I made a mini bound book to use as my prayer ideas book for the days of the week. It has seven double pages, one for each day of the week. I used each day of the week as an acrostic to list specific needs I would pray for that day. On one side of the page I would write the day as an acrostic, on the other side I would list specific people or events that fit the specific ideas listed. Here is what my Monday page looks like so you can get some ideas of your own for your pages if you like:

Missions          Outreach programs Needy             Develop spiritual gifts
An opportunity to share
Your faith
Names of Missionaries
Names of programs
Name your spiritual gift that you would like to develop

This booklet has really helped me to be more focussed in the areas that I pray for and I've covered a lot more needs than I've been able to in the past. Of course I pray for my husband and children daily and so they are not in the booklet but I'm thinking of making another so that I can add specific prayer requests for them, such as their spiritual lives on Sunday, moral decisions on Monday, thankful hearts on Tuesday, etc.

Jun. 7, 2006 - This is just what I need

I find my mind wandering manytimes during my quiet time-- and have a hard time focusing on prayer. Although I try to pray throughout the day as God lays certain things on my heart-- I know I need to improve my quiet devotional time. Thanks so much for the idea!
In His love,
Renee

I've spent years developing a pattern of prayer that really works for me. I've thought about putting something about it up on my blog for a while now. Maybe I should...

for inspiring me to start organising my prayer life, I feel much the same as you. See your little book has given me the nudge I needed to do something similar.
Thank You!
