Aint....
Posted By 4evrHischild in Poetry
Ain't
He was just a little boy,
on a week's first day.
Wandering home from Sunday School,
and dawdling on the way.
He scuffed his shoes into the grass;
he even found a caterpillar. He found a fluffy milkweed pod,
and blew out all the "filler."
A bird's nest in a tree overhead,
so wisely placed up so high.
Was just another wonder,
that caught his eager eye.
A neighbor watched his zig zag course,
and hailed him from the lawn;
Asked him where he'd been that day
and what was going on.
"I've been to Bible School ," he said and turned a piece of sod.
He picked up a wiggly worm replying,
"I've learned a lot about God."
"M'm very fine way," the neighbor said,
"for a boy to spend his time." "If you'll tell me where God is,
I'll give you a brand new dime."
Quick as a flash the answer came!
Nor were his accents faint.
"I'll give you a dollar, Mister, if you can tell me where God ain't." :)

When Jesus Looks...
Posted By 4evrHischild in Poetry
Posted in Poetry
When Jesus looks upon my life,
What picture does He see?
Does He see His own reflection,
Or does He just see me?
Does He see His likeness,
The product of His hand.
Or just another Christian,
Who never took a stand?
Does He see a child of God,
A child that He set free?
Living life to honor Him,
Or does He just see me?
What about the other folks,
I meet along the way.
Do I show them Jesus,
To brighten up their day?
When someone looks into my eyes,
Can they truly see,
That calm and gentle peace of God,
That dwells inside of me?
When I reach out and shake a hand,
Is He right there in my grip?
Can they feel that strength from God,
That steadies when I slip?
When folks are in my presence,
Do they know His Spirit's there?
Can they see that He's the one,
Who guides me everywhere?
When other people thing of me,
What is on their mind?
Do they think of Jesus Christ,
So gentle and so kind?
I try to be like Jesus,
Every single day.
Spreading love and kindness,
All along the way.
I'm afraid that I have failed,
I could not pass the test.
Deep inside my heart I know,
I haven't done my best.
I have had to fight my flesh,
Since the day that I was born.
It's always causing trouble,
And being such a thorn.
That's why His Spirit dwells in me,
He's helping me to learn.
In every situation,
Where I need to turn.
He knew I'd never pass the test,
That's why he took my place.
He gave His life to save my soul,
He suffered my disgrace.
Now I try to be like Him,
I must present Him well.
So other folks will want His gift,
And turn their backs on hell.
Other folks should see the joy,
That Christ has given me.
They should want to have it too,
Especially since it's free.
They should begin to ask me,
What is it I must do.
Just how it is they go about,
Getting Jesus too.
Then I get to tell them,
This wondrous gift is free.
It only takes a humble hear,
A prayer on bended knee.
Someday when I'm face to face,
With the Lord who set me free,
Will He see His own reflection,
Or will He just see me?

Start Over...
Posted By 4evrHischild in Poetry
"When you've trusted Jesus and walked His way,
When you felt His hand lead you day by day
But your steps now take you another way,
START OVER.
"When you've made your plans and they've gone awry,
When you've tried your best 'til there's no more try,
When you've failed yourself and you don't know why
START OVER.
"When you've told your friends what you plan to do,
When you've trusted them but they didn't come through,
Now you're all alone and it's up to you
START OVER.
"When you've failed your kids and they're grown and gone,
When you've done your best but it turned out wrong,
And now your grandchildren have come along,
START OVER.
"When you've prayed to God so you'll know His will,
When you've prayed and prayed but you don't know still,
When you want to stop 'cause you've had your fill,
START OVER.
"When you think you're finished and want to quit,
When you've bottomed out in life's deepest pit,
When you've tried and tried to get out of it,
START OVER.
"When the year's been long and successes few,
When December comes and you're feeling blue,
God gives us a January just so you can
START OVER.
"Starting over means victories won.
Starting over means a race well run.
Starting over means the Lord's 'Well Done'
...so, don't just sit there,
START OVER.

Come Dine With Me...
Posted By 4evrHischild in Poetry
You Are invited to come dine with Me,
From now through all eternity.
Believe in the Father, Son and Holy Ghost,
And dine with Jesus as your host.
To live in heaven eternally,
All you must do is...

The Passage of Time...
Posted By 4evrHischild in Poetry
This is a poem I wrote as I sat contemplating the passage of time from the little boy my son once was to the self-confident young man we left at college yesterday.
Time passes expeditiously As we watch our children grow. Erstwhile unsteady steps, Turn to confidence and go.
Quondam, arrant dependence, Whilst in mother's arms he lay; Quickly shifts to self-reliance, As he turns to walk away.
A precious gift we're given To nurture, love and hold So brief the time of teaching Before she leaves the fold.
Treasure every moment Don't let a second pass you by Hold him just a little longer Before he turns to say good-bye.
Read him one more story, Sing her one more song, For the time it passes quickly And they'll soon be moseying along.

Happy the Home
Posted By 4evrHischild in Poetry
Happy the home where toys are scattered about,
Children laughing, running in and out
Slammed doors, interrupted prayers
These are the moments I hold most dear.
Happy the home where love and laughter prevail
Hugs abounding, kisses never fail.
Mud smudged faces, dandelion bouquets
Children seeking Mom's endearing praise.
Happy the home with God as center of all
Trusting, praying, answering His every call.
Gentle living, doing kind deeds
Spreading His word by the planting of seeds.

Calling All Poets...
Posted By 4evrHischild in Poetry
I started writing a poem about a year ago and never finished it. I just found it in my notebook and thought it would be fun to have some help finishing it. So if you feel creative enough to add a stanza or two, leave me a comment. All the best ones will be included in a completed poem post. That is if I receive enough entries to actually complete the poem.
Creation
Dark, barren nothingness A vast, empty expanse Somber, dismal vacancy, An abode that disenchants.
Out of this obscurity A voice steadfast and loud Spoke out with great authority Lifting that opaque shroud.
The angels danced with gladness And sang out in sheer delight. For out of all that darkness Appeared the faintest light.
And dawn gave birth to evening As day one came to a close For light was the emergence Of God's eminent cosmos.
Suffocating, saturated, Smothered universe. Until, at last the water He did carefully disperse.
Betwixt those awesome waters, Fresh air prevailed o'erall While angels in the heavens Anticipate their master's call.
Day two closes swiftly Oceans, air, and light abide Where the world once was governed By darkness multiplied.

Homeschool Prayer
Posted By 4evrHischild in Poetry
Now I sit me down to teach
The lessons for my kids to keep
May they be rich and wisdom bring
That they obey in everything.
For only then the Saviors love
Radiating from above
Can enter and bring saving life
And victory from daily strife.
And then eternal joy shall come
And take us to our heavenly home
Thus as I sit me down to teach
I pray my children's souls to reach!

Rainbow
Posted By 4evrHischild in Poetry
When Life's storms are getting you down
And the help you want just can't be found,
And the pain seems more than you can bear,
And you wonder if anyone really cares.
Remember the rainbows that God sends,
In the words of a letter from a friend
Or the sunshine of hope on a small child's face
Or the warmth and comfort of a tender embrace.
In the midst of your pain you can find His rainbow,
If you look for it everywhere you go.
Like His promise to Noah in days of old
Just watch for his promises to unfold.
He'll wipe those tears out of your eyes
And hasten to answer your fervent cries.
His voice on the wind whispers in your ear…
Yes, Dear Child, your heavenly Father cares.
