Just One of Four!

November 12, 2007 - Hymns for HIM!

Okay, can I be "trendy" too?  I won't write up a post about Thanksgiving and how far down hill we've gone, but I will post this hymn that I think goes very well with the "theme".

Is this the Kind Return?

Words: Isaac Watts, Hymns and Spiritual Songs, 1707-9, Book II, number 74.

Music: Golden Hill, from the Kentucky Harmony, by Ananias Davisson, 1816 (MIDI, score).

Is this the kind return,
And these the thanks we owe,
Thus to abuse eternal love,
Whence all our blessings flow?

To what a stubborn frame
Has sin reduced our mind!
What strange rebellious wretches we,
And God as strangely kind!

On us He bids the sun
Shed his reviving rays;
For us the skies their circles run,
To lengthen out our days.

The brutes obey their God,
And bow their necks to men;
But we, more base, more brutish things,
Reject His easy reign.

Turn, turn us, mighty God,
And mold our souls afresh;
Break, sov’reign grace, these hearts of stone,
And give us hearts of flesh.

Let old ingratitude
Provoke our weeping eyes,
And hourly as new mercies fall
Let hourly thanks arise.

Many 'appy returns!

-Mellie

LOL!! That is funny about Josie getting those things from the armed services. My other friend got a call from them too the same nite she left her comment saying that she hadn't gotten anything either. Maybe they were watching my blog and saw Josie hadn't gotten anything and decided to send her something. jk. lol
Yeah, I love coffee shops. Altho I don't get to go to one often.
You are so welcome for the prayers!! ; )
Love,
Amanda

Now this is the kind of thing I'm talking about! Lol. I just did a post on hymns, and I love how you post one a week. :-) I haven't heard this one before, but I like the lyrics! Very appropriate for Thanksgiving.

I'm glad my lecture notes have been an encouragement to you.

Your comment:You're 116 years old?! JK Typos are aggrivating. Didn't you just do this tag recently? Boy it got around quickly. I'll be curious to see what the people you tagged say, if they do at all. ;-) Have a nice evening, I must go practice, music! -Mellie

Ya I saw the typo, but I'm way to lazy to change it. It's not a big deal, everyone know's I'm not 116. lol. I did it the day before I posted it. :D

Have a good day.

November 14, 2007 - Hi Melaine!...I mean..uh..Mellie!

It does sound a little bit like what we've been talking about. But I tell you, God can open up the gates of understanding! He can help us through all our struggles and trials.
And don't worry about it, I know what it feels like to have "computer issues." (although I'm not sure if I have the same ones you do ;-)
So when did this name-calling start? ;-D
Love you Mellie,

You certainly are quick at responding...but, Ahem, aren't I also? ;-D
Well, I certainly mustn't be left behind in the matter of name-calling. So maybe in one of my emails I'll come up with a good one. But "Mellie" IS a good one!
I'll bid you Adieu my dear,

Wow! That hymn is wonderful! Makes me wish that we sang more of those kind of hymns in church! I love worship music, but I love the truth we hear in those old hymns too.
