Well, we made it to and from CT with just a few scars. JJ. Actually, the drive up was horrendous! You know how it is, there is always the 'rush' of last minute things that need to be done before you can leave. This made a delay in our getting on the road and we left about 2 hrs later than we wanted. I didn't know but there was an ice storm that was going to be north of us. Yes, you guessed it, we ran into it in North Carolina. Only slowed us down for about an hour and a half and we kept moving the whole time but VERY S-L-O-W-L-Y. Then around 4:30am we stopped for gas (ok, we left at 3:30pm on the 23rd and didn't get to the middle of PA until 4:30am on the 24th, from there it took us until 3:30-4pm later that afternoon to get to NE CT if that gives you any idea of our situation!!!) as we jumped onto the highway, we drove about 2mi and hit a dead stop. There was an accident where some truck driver going too fast for conditions ended up hanging from a bridge. We sat in the same spot for 6hrs. We did not move even 1/10th of a mile during that time. It was icy, cold, and we were beat!! DH and I had been awake for 24 hrs already at this point and we had been on the road now for 15hrs. During this time, the boys were angels and didn't complain once! DH and I were the crabby ones.
The highway patrol turned cars around at some point but left about 8 of us on the road to "wait it out". ARGH!!!! After I called the patrol again, we were moving within a few minutes. So onward we pressed and then by around 3:30-4pm on Christmas Eve we arrived. Oh were we beat. DH and I were alseep by 7:30pm. We wanted to go to sleep right away but didn't want to wake up at 2am and not be able to sleep. Fortunately we had a MUCH better ride home. We made it home smooth sailing in 14hrs! PHEW!
So after much Christmassing with family and friends we came home and it took a week to recover! All the late nights and rich foods we were tired. We had our little Christmas together as a family and it was nice. I am currently un-decorating our home. DH is out putting the trampoline together we bought our boys and we found that we are 2 springs short of a complete round! OYE!
We also added a new family member to our home last Monday. We have a dog! She is a mix of Lab and something else. Not sure what. She's 1 1/2yrs old and a really sweetie. She is getting used to us now and I think over time she will be a wonderful addition to our family. She is attached to me like crazy and everywhere I go, she goes. We named her Sadie but should have called her "shadow".
So, busy weeks, busy stuff. All wonderful and a great blessing. Now, we can wait for the next adventure. I hope it doesn't involve being stranded for 6hrs on the highway!
So Happy January to all you folks and keep warm!
