Apr. 3, 2006 - Brief History of Idaho
The famous explorers Lewis and Clark traveled through Idaho in 1805. A few years later, a British fur trader moved into the area. He was soon followed by other traders. In 1860, a group of Mormons settled the first permanent town in Idaho, called Franklin. When gold was discovered in Orofino Creek that same year, people rushed to the region. In 1863, the Idaho Territory was organized. With the development of the railroad came more settlers. In 1890, Idaho became a state.
