Apr. 20, 2006 - Brief History of Connecticut
Connecticut was settled by English colonists from Massachusetts in 1633. In 1662, the king of England gave the Connecticut Colony a charter granting the colony a strip of land bordered by a Connecticut bay on one side and the Pacific Ocean on the other. Neither the king nor the colonists realized that the Pacific Ocean was thousands of miles away! In 1665, the Connecticut Colony became larger when it joined the New Haven Colony. The colony supported independence from Great Britain and sent hundreds of men to fight in the Revolutionary War. Connecticut became one of the original 13 United States colonies in 1788.
