All About the 50 United States

Apr. 27, 2006 - Brief History of Arkansas

In 1812, Arkansas was part of the Missouri Territory. In 1819, the United States government changed the area's name to the Arkansas Territory. When Arkansas became a state in 1836, the issue of slavery was being debated in the South. In 1861, after the start of the Civil War, Arkansas seceded from the Union to support the Confederacy. In 1868, after the war ended, Arkansas was readmitted into the Union.

This site is great! You did a wonderful job putting it together. I'd like to keep it handy to show my kids. I live in Arkansas, so decided to add my commernt here. If you want to know anything else about Arkansas, let me know.

Maybe you should add State Flags to this site.

Thank you for the comment and the compliment.

I actually did post the state flags, but they are probably on the last and second to last pages. Thank you for the suggestion!
