This is a fun book tag!  Thanks Anne for tagging me!  I would link to your site but for some reason I am not computer literate enough to do that.  Anyway, you can visit Anne by clicking on her link on my sidebar!

Book Meme:

Rules -

  1. Pick up the nearest book (of at least 123 pages.)
  2. Open the book to page 123.
  3. Find the fifth sentence.
  4. Post the next three sentences.
  5. Tag five people.

Sitting at my computer I have many books to choose from which are equidistant from me.  I can see a hymnal, Training Hearts, Teaching Minds by  Starr Meade, a Latin book, Mystery of History and Drawing With children.  Since I love history, I will choose that one.

Why then do we find the Kingdom of Israel divided after just 100 years?  In part it had to do with Solomon's own sin at the end of his reign, but it also had to do with the mistakes made by his own son.  Here is that story. Upon Solomon's death, his son Rehoboam took charge as king. He wasn't wise at all like his father had been.

Yes, I copied more than three.  I just had to keep going! Isn't that ironic?  Here I am back to studying wisdom in national leaders!  I didn't look either, before I selected a book!

Here comes the hard part about this tag: Five people.  Hmmm!  I will tag Heritage of Home, Seeking Him, azmommaof6, joymommy, and garringer9!  If you don't want to play, I understand!

(Sorry I can't link to you directly.  Either I am not using the Insert/Edit image button correctly or I just don't know how to do it.  If anyone one wants to send a hint I will gladly accept a tutorial! )

Praying all of you are seeking the wisdom of God!  Blessed Lord's day tomorrow!  In Christ, Eva

Friday Funnies

Posted in Mixed Fruit • Jan. 25, 2008

I am recording these all week so I can share on Friday!

The girls were completing an exercise page for their Mystery of History lesson this week.  The first question asked, "What was the name of one of the earliest men to compose music."  The answer is Jubal. It has litererally been a year since we studied the descendants of Cain and so Sarah didn't remember the correct answer.  When I asked why she picked Solomon, she quickly replied, "Well, his book is called the Songs of Solomon!"

Well, I know we laughed about other things as well all week but I just have a hard time remembering to write it down!

May your week be full of joy and laughter at the wonderful things in life!

A question to ponder...

Posted in Mixed Fruit • Jan. 20, 2008

A blogging friend asked,

Now my question is-- is a dummy plus the Holy Spirit better than a "wise" man without the Holy Spirit?

Prov 1:7
7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge;
Fools despise wisdom and instruction.
Prov 9:10
10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom,
NASU

If a person doesn't fear (in a saving way) then he/she cannot be wise!  There is no such thing as a "wise" man without the Holy Spirit!  Crafty, yes.  Smart, yes.  Educated, yes.  The thing I struggle with in trying to separate faith and politics is that the Bible tells me in 1 Cor 2:14-16

14 But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised. 15 But he who is spiritual appraises all things, yet he himself is appraised by no one. 16 For WHO HAS KNOWN THE MIND OF THE LORD, THAT HE WILL INSTRUCT HIM? But we have the mind of Christ.
NASU

So how can I please God with my vote if I do not vote for one with the mind of Christ?  If I choose to support one who has the mind of the flesh and the darkness of this world, could I possible please God?  So then my next question is, without really getting to know them personally, how can I determine if they are saved?  I have to look at their record, what I can see of it, and see who lines up with Biblical values and vote my conscience with that.

I am still searching both the Bible and the records because our FL primary is coming up!  Will my vote possibly be pointless because the person is not "electable"?  That is arbitrary.  I must vote for the man whom I believe to be the most in line with scripture and trust God with the outcome!  If none seem to match then I will have to abstain from voting.  Choosing the lesser of two evils is still evil!

So, if you know me well...

family and friends: what do you think?  Is this accurate?

These were my results:

What Eva Means
You are friendly, charming, and warm. You get along with almost everyone.
You work hard not to rock the boat. Your easy going attitude brings people together.
At times, you can be a little flaky and irresponsible. But for the important things, you pull it together.

You are very hyper. You never slow down, even when it's killing you.
You're the type of person who can be a workaholic during the day... and still have the energy to party all night.
Your energy is definitely a magnet for those around you. People are addicted to your vibe.

You are usually the best at everything ... you strive for perfection.
You are confident, authoritative, and aggressive.
You have the classic "Type A" personality.

What May Means
You are confident, self assured, and capable. You are not easily intimidated.
You master any and all skills easily. You don't have to work hard for what you want.
You make your life out to be exactly how you want it. And you'll knock down anyone who gets in your way!

You are usually the best at everything ... you strive for perfection.
You are confident, authoritative, and aggressive.
You have the classic "Type A" personality.

You are a free spirit, and you resent anyone who tries to fence you in.
You are unpredictable, adventurous, and always a little surprising.
You may miss out by not settling down, but you're too busy having fun to care.

When you compare the two names it sounds like I have multiple personality disorder except for being a Type A.   I probably agree with the Type A assessment.  I definitely think I am more like the first name's description!  Although I would change flaky to forgetful and irresponsible to procrastinator!

Best at everything would have to exclude sports and cleaning house!  A year ago I would have included cooking, but I am getting better at that, aren't I, darling?

Hyper?  Only when on Dr. Pepper!

Well, if you would like to take this cute little quiz go to http://www.blogthings.com/whatsyournameshiddenmeaningquiz/

Have a blessed Lord's Day tomorrow!

2 Kings 19:19

Posted in Mixed Fruit • Jan. 16, 2008

I have always voted conservatively because of the moral and fiscal values I hold, but this year I am so sad at the state of the Republican party and our choices for President.  I am linking to this video because this is one area I truly believe we are heading for a fall in our country.  I know that there are many aspects to protecting our country and I am not in favor of immediate withdraw from Iraq and our other areas of proactive defense, but I cringe for our deficit to remain as it is.

I have debt too that I wish I had never incurred!  I borrowed money for college just so I could live on campus when I could have saved thousands of dollars and lived with my parents!  How ridiculous!  All because society said that since I turned 18 I needed to be out on my own and I believed it and have really paid for it!

The Bible does not say children are to leave their parents until they are to be married!  Isaac was 40 years of age and when he was married to Rebekah.  During that time he remained with his parents and a wife was chosen for him!! It is sad that our nation has fallen so far from Biblical truths!

Going back  to my original point:  Had I followed a Biblical model, I would have at least saved myself all the wasted loan money, and possibly devoted those many hours (learning all about everything that wasn't Biblical) to studying the Bible and how to be the wife and mother I am trying to learn now, while currently burdened by my debt!

I feel that our nation is choking our own life as we gorge on every single amusement and fun to be had, leaving the most basic necessities of life in the hands of foreigners who are willing to work.  (Americans, including myself, have become so pampered we hardly know how to work!)  Have you noticed where most of our food is imported from.  I don't know if it is just because we live in FL, but so much of our produce is from Central and South American countries.  We live in a very mild climate and have grown produce in our garden even more than expected this year.  Why can't America produce our own food and other resources in large amounts? Laziness and lack of responsibility! It scares me to think what we will be paying for food grown in another country as the dollar continues to devalue!

I am not totally set on Ron Paul and I seriously doubt his ability to be nominated, but I appreciate his willingness to say what is unpleasant to hear and unpopular to think about (spending less, government not "fixing" everything).  I appreciate the fact that he looks at history to help determine whether we are declining or improving as a nation.  I pray whoever God chooses to lead our country is willing to make serious changes to stop this spending that will leave us shell shocked when we are a bankrupt nation, enslaved to others!

The girls and I are studying the fall of Israel to Assyria.  We see the hand of God being removed from His chosen nation because they did not keep His commandments and honor Him and Him only.  We studied today about King Hezekiah and his prayer of protection for Judah (the Southern Kingdom of Divided Israel).  It was amazing to see how God answered that prayer by destroying the enemy in a miraculous way! (Go read 2 Kings 19:35)  What a mighty God we serve! May America repent and truly serve God!

In Christ, Another interesting YouTube from Ron Paul.  Evidently this question and answer was not included in the Fox News rebroadcast of the debate!!!
