That boy....

I bought a CARS easy reader book awhile ago. I think it is Level 1 so very basic, 3-4 words per page. Last night he was sitting on the floor looking at it & reading it out loud.  No one has ever read it to him because he only wants to look at it himself & will take it away if you try to read it. I have seen plenty of proof that he can read & it still amazes me everytime he does something like this. He hardly talks, basically just echoing, will almost never sit long enough to be read to, no "reading lessons" of any kind except for his Leap frog DVDs & yet he is reading. It just amazes me.

Mar. 19, 2007 - I hear you!

Except in my case, it's 'that girl'! She gave me fits about not wanting anything to do with reading for two years. I introduced Dr. Suess, and suddenly things were different.

It seemed overnight that she would read signs everywhere we went - out loud. Not realizing she said anything, she would go quiet again. My husband and I didn't say anything for a few weeks, but now we let her know we have 'caught you reading!'.

Now that she knows we are aware she can read, and reads all the time, there are far fewer fits over language arts. The sulk has changed from 'I can't' to 'I don't want to' - and that doesn't fly with Mama.

Here's to catching our kids reading,

Our son memorizes whole books and is still not reading on his own. I can imagine your amazement at him reading without assistance, they are amazing children. I totally understand the good days/bad days stuff, it can be very frustrating. Great to hear how things are going though, he sounds wonderful!
