It’s been awhile since we’ve visited like this… sorry. Where do I begin? Today was pizza day…that’s for starters. Then it was off to the dentist for some diagnostic work. My jaw bones got high marks for density – for my age – you know how it is. Did a quick trip around the Curves circuit before going over to the church to set up a new mission board presentation. It’s been awhile since I’ve done the security over there and thought I could get in the front door and have time to run to the console and put in the codes. Nope. I set off the alarm. I knew what that meant… the phone would ring and it would be the security people. “Hello, Cornerstone.” I said, face turning red. “This is security. Is everything okay?” I began to explain that I tripped the alarm by mistake. “But, I can’t disarm it. Can you help me do that?” “What is the password?” he asked. I couldn’t remember. I haven’t needed it before even though I had been told what it was. I was digging myself in deeper with this guy. “I know the code,” I protested. I just don’t know the password.” He gave me a hint, but it didn’t help. He gave me the benefit of the doubt, but no codes, and we hung up. I went over and tried the codes again and finally got the console returned to where I wanted it. I grabbed the key to the shed and went out back to get a table. Once inside I heard, “Sue?” It was Lori and I knew she had been called to double check the premises. Oh, brother. I didn’t mean to cause an international incident but it felt like one. She was on the phone with Linda reassuring her that everything was okay. Of course, imagine her concern when she drove in the yard, saw my car, but couldn’t find me and I couldn’t hear her. She was ready for war if she needed to be. Thank you, Lori. I guess I haven’t written since pizzas last Wednesday when Toni helped me instead of Kathy. The Burbanks came so Loralei could go to an appointment so we got a lot of yard work done. I also went in to have a Lyme’s test. I’ve had one before, but this time it’s going to the primo testing lab in the country. It’s the last attempt to determine why I keep running these fever episodes now and then – which happened that very evening. Carissa spent the night to take care of me in case I needed her. She made a great breakfast for me. Thankfully, the episode was a mild one and I was feeling better the next morning. Thurs: After breakfast we got ready for Crysten to come home. Jeremy went off to a car auction and was able to find a good buy on a Jetta. Now, they’ll have a car for work and errands so that they won’t have to use the Suburban for those things. By 7 PM he and Loralei left for Boston to get Crysten when she flew in at midnight. They crawled into bed about 3:45 AM. Crystsen’s flight went well and we were all glad to get her home again. Fri: Jared slept in our room last night. He’s a light sleeper so he was awake when Bob got up at 4 something . It’s so light out at that hour. Who woulda thunk it? I met Marie at Thayer for a vascular workup to see if we can get more blood flowing into her foot for healing. They put blood pressure cuffs all up and down her arms and legs and on her big toes. At times the pressure made her cry. Marie tolerates a lot of pain, so when she cried, I knew it was serious. Thankfully, it didn’t last for long. Next week we get the results. Crysten came over for lunch and spent the afternoon. Loralei and the kids were still here, too. She had gifts for everyone – and pictures – and stories. That evening we joined the Curtis’ and the Withams at the Jacobs for supper. SAT: What does salad for 40 look like? That’s what I was to bring to Erika’s graduation party. When inquiring minds want to know they surf the web, right? Well, it seems I was off by about 100 servings and we have been eating a great tossed salad for days now. Erika is happy to be done school and we are happy to have her back for a while. She didn’t stop smiling as she showed off her new engagement ring and showed pictures of the wedding dress she ordered on her way home from school. It was good to see Uncle Lou, Aunt Nat, Bernard, Irene, Trudy, and Norman and their grandsons. We don’t see these people often enough. Some got into a game of pool later in the afternoon. I don’t do pool. I didn’t grow up in the funeral home playing it like my sisters did. Nevertheless, my family insists I play – to make themselves look good, I think. So, Loralei (like mother like daughter when it comes to pool) and I found cue sticks in our hands and partners against Kevin and Van and Jeremy and Kathy. There is a God. And with His help and sense of humor, she and I won 2 games of pool in a row against some very stiff competition. Michele arrived here around 5 and no one was home to greet them. She and the kids drove up to see if Dr. Anderson can help Justin with his awful headaches. We finally got home from graduation about 8. My cousin Brent, and his wife Wendy are expecting triplets in September. You can track the progress of these little ones here: http://theturnertriplets.blogspot.com SUN: Melissa called about 6:15AM her time to wish me Happy Mother’s Day. With the kids getting up early every morning for school, they get up early every morning. We got to church and our own shy Megan was willing to get up on stage and tell the congregation why she loved her mother. Way to go, Megan. The Burbanks and Crysten came for lunch, which was take out from the Red Barn. On the way we stopped at the my favorite greenhouse for flowers. With the kids to help we did some landscaping for Crysten. When Jeremy took Crysten and the boys to play church football, the girls surprised Crysten by cleaning her house. She had been home only long enough to sleep since returning from Guatemala, so she really appreciated their hard work. Jen called that afternoon to wish me Happy Mother’s day, and later Ed called to wish me Happy Mother-in-law Day – which gave him bonus points. MON: Justin and I did lawns, landscaping and we redid some stone work on the flower beds. After all that he and I went for an ice cream treat at Giffords. Kathy came down for Stromboli supper so Nicole and I could squeak out a win in Hand n Foot. TUES: Got the mulching done and Justin did more lawns. Bob has three young bulls in the barn so Justin enjoys feeding them the fresh mowed grass. Remember that I mentioned Expelled awhile ago? A bunch of us from church got to see it last night. It was very well done… it made me laugh – it disturbed me some – it “moved me Bob”. Try whatever it takes to see it. Here’s what Rush Limbaugh had to say about it, RUSH: Ben Stein has a new movie out. He brought it by my house Friday afternoon to screen it for me. It's called Expelled. It is powerful. It is fabulous. And here's the premise of his movie. The premise is that Darwinism has taken root, taken hold at every major intellectual institution around the world in Western Society, from Great Britain to the United States, you name it. Darwinism, of course, does not permit for the existence of a supreme being, a higher power, or a God. His interviews with some of the professors who espouse Darwinism are literally shocking. The condescension and the arrogance these people have, they will readily admit that Darwinism and evolution do not explain how life began. One of these professors said it might have been that a hyper-intelligence from another planet came here and started our race. This from some professor either in the UK, I forget where it was, but can't be God. These people are so threatened by the existence of God, they will not permit intelligent design to be discussed. Professors have been fired, blackballed, and prevented from working who have deigned to try to combine the whole concept of evolution with intelligent design. |
