Praying for Olivia
I haven't met Olivia, but I am praying for her.  She's just a few months old and she has downs syndrome.  When her parents were told she would be born this way, they were offered the option to abort her.  They said no without hesitation.
Olivia is very ill.  Her heart, and many other body parts are not working properly.  She has been in ICU since birth and her parents have not been able to cuddle or hold her very often.

This week, I received this poem written by a grandmother named Nancy Campbell.  Above Rubies

When Nancy wrote this poem, I'm sure that she had a healthy baby in mind.  I read this poem just after reading that Olivia needs surgery.  Without it she will not live - with it she may die during the operation.  Think about Olivia's plight as you read this... the meaning is as true for her life as it is for the life of a healthy child, don't you think?

Whence came this child?

Before the world began she was in God's mind,
A God who loves to create and is very kind,
He's the author of life and destiny,
And He already knows what He wants her to be.

What an amazing miracle-the birth of a child!
We stand in awe-and God has a smile!
He's created a life that's never lived before,
A life that is special, unique, with gifts galore.

She's a gift to her parents and a gift to the world
As we wait for her destiny to be unfurled.
She's a budding life that will come to full bloom,
And of course her parents are "over the moon."

But the greatest wonder of all that we see
Is to comprehend she was born for eternity!
She's not just a life, but an eternal soul,
Born to embrace a heavenly goal.

Oh the wonder, the privilege we have as a wife
To bring into this world an everlasting life!
Praise God for this privilege and praise God for this babe
Whom He has lovingly and intricately made.

Some would ask, "How can God be kind and allow such suffering?"  We live in a fallen world and bad things do happen.  It doesn't mean that God is not kind and good.  No, what the devil means for evil, God will make good.  My heart weeps for Olivia and her parents, but I know that heaven will make it worth it.  Olivia IS God's gift to the world.  Please join me in praying for Olivia.

I just read your blog. And yes, I will pray for Olivia. I have 2 girls with special needs and though I don't know personally what her family is going through, I really do care.

Thank you for sharing this story so others can pray for her and God bless you!
