My Presidential Campaign update

In church today we heard a report by some missionary translator friends of ours who have just returned from Myanmar. By the grace of God, they had left just before the terrible cyclone hit this country. While our friends had flown to India and were watching news reports of the approaching storm, the citizens of Myanmar knew nothing about it until it was too late. You know what has happened there...an estimated 2.5 million people are expected to die as a result of this storm. The military government is forbidding countries from providing relief and what is getting into the country is being hoarded by the government officials. Evil is more evil than we can imagine, isn't it? There are ways to get money to some of the survivors, but there is no food or water to spend it on. It's a desperate situation. Up until now the authorities in Myanmar have only been concerned with economics. It's all that matters to them. What can we learn from this? In the political realm, we often see politicians who might be "conservative" when it comes to the economy, but "liberal" when it comes to social issues. Often we hear that a person's "religious" views are irrelevant to how he/she governs. Faith, they say, is a private matter and should not become a part of the public debate. Is that true? Is it true that your beliefs have nothing to do with public policy and governance? Is it true that your world view does not influence how you respond in times of crisis? What is the lesson from Myanmar as we face the upcoming elections and the prevailing correctness insists that social issues don't matter?.."It's the economy stupid." What say you, Mrs. Clinton, Mr. Obama, Olympia Snow and Susan Collins? Come now, you rich, weep and howl for your miseries that are coming upon you! Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are moth-eaten. Your gold and silver are corroded, and their corrosion will be a witness against you and will eat your flesh like fire. You have heaped up treasure in the last days. Indeed the wages of the laborers who mowed your fields, which you kept back by fraud, cry out; and the cries of the reapers have reached the ears of the Lord of Sabaoth. You have lived on the earth in pleasure and luxury; you have fattened your hearts as in a day of slaughter. You have condemned, you have murdered the just; he does not resist you. James 5:1-6 NKJV When the whirlwind passes by, the wicked is no more, But the righteous has an everlasting foundation. Prov 10:25 NKJV |
