The Walls Are Home...

May 31, 2008

Walls home from Guatemala

It’s an exciting morning here on the farm.  The rains have come, for one thing.  Thank you, Jesus.  Rain at last.

This morning I got up a little later than usual after a trip home from the airport in the middle of the night.  I found Rachel and Carrie at the bottom of the stairs impatiently waiting for Megan, Carissa, and Faith to wake up.  Now that they have, everyone is playing dress up and a wedding is now taking place in the dining room.  Fun times for all.

The Wall flight came in from Atlanta a little late, but not bad.  The longest wait was for the 12 LL Bean duffle bags to come off.  Emma was a little grumpy from being woken up, but pleased Carissa when she called her by name.  The cousins thought Emma might have forgotten them.

Megan and Carissa held up a big Welcome Home sign and surprised Faith, who did not know they would be coming.  She was hoping, though, and had told her mother on the flight home.  She’s as tall as Carissa now.

“I think I’ll probably cry,” Carissa said earlier in the day.

“Carissa, you don’t cry at things like that,” insisted Aunt Crysten who knows that Carissa is not overly sentimental.

“Well, maybe my eyes will just fill with tears,” she decided.  In the end, there was such excitement, I don’t think anyone really shed tears.  Eli arrived with a missing bottom tooth.

The trip down was not without its drama when we found the Walls van battery dead around 8 PM.  Called AAA when Bob couldn’t get it going, and an hour and a half later, just as we were heading to the airport with PLAN B (Michele’s Suburban) the guy arrived and got it going.  We didn’t dare take it in case we stalled it and would delay us more.

What fun to have a house full of kids and pouring rain.

Family Flashback

THURSDAY:  I spent the afternoon with Marie.  She was sleeping when I arrived and a little sleepy all during the visit, but we had a good time.  I left to come home and mow lawns.  Grass isn’t growing much, but those dandelion stems were everywhere.  This rain will change all that, I’m sure.

Nicole is enjoying her time in PA and will move to the camp grounds this weekend.

FRIDAY: Haley and Jeff were here early to set up for a lawn sale.  They are moving to NC next month.  L Crysten and I headed out shopping for some essentials for Melissa’s homecoming.  The church gave a very generous donation for the groceries.  Loralei, Elizabeth and Michele cooked some meals.  She should be in good shape for a few days.

The house was left very clean and tidy by the tenant living there over the last 5 months.  When we finished setting up notes on everyone’s bed and putting in the groceries, we brought Megan and Carissa home for the trip to the airport and for the overnight.

They were thrilled to find Emily, Caitlyn and Isabel here helping Haley with her lawn sale.  They got to play for awhile before everyone left.  Kathy came for supper.  She had been up since 1 AM with insomnia, so took a quick nap on the couch.  Guess it revived her, because she and Michele spanked Crysten and I in Hand ‘n Foot after.
