The Tooth Fairy and Running for President

I am keeping up with my grandchildren lately… some are losing teeth and so am I.  I broke one tonight for no good reason.  It feels like a cavern in that spot.  I wonder if I put the broken piece under my pillow if… nah, I’m too old for that.

Marie and I got some more good news today.  We visited a vascular surgeon.  It didn’t take him long to see that the best treatment for Marie’s foot was the treatment she is getting.  “Once you start tampering with things like veins, etc, you are just asking for new problems.”  There is hope for the medical profession after all.  He agreed with me that even if we don’t get a complete healing she is not suffering and we should just leave well enough alone.  Praise the Lord.

He did give some suggestions about her wound care.  There is a pad that they use that is an antibiotic so that should help control the infection without additional meds.  I was not expecting it to be that easy.  God went before us… thank you, Lord.

Recently, the local paper reported on customer satisfaction with the hospitals in our area.  Inland rated #1.  No one asked me, but if they had, I would have rated them that as well.  Between my mom and Marie, my experiences with the hospital have been excellent.  Today was no exception.

I had to renew my license today.  The young girl waiting on me seemed all to happy to inform me that the next time I renew, I will be old enough to be required to take an eye exam each time.  What is the age that they start requiring a driving test?

I got home and found Justin and Stephanie at work on painting the wooden swings under the maple tree.  Stephanie wasn’t really feeling too well today, so Justin did a lot of the work.  He loves to paint.  I changed into some painting clothes and joined him.  I love working with him.  It reminds me of how motivated I was to do these kinds of projects when the girls were here.  When they left, a lot of my ambition and desire left with them – which surprised me.

Anyway, I’ve decided that if I had had a son, I would have wanted it to be Justin.  He loves to work, can easily entertain himself, is very genuine, and doesn’t seem to have any character flaws that I can see.  He’s a great guy and I will hate to see him leave.  I think we’ll be able to finish tomorrow and then he wants to paint the steps around here.

We have a friend at church who makes house calls to repair your car.  Mine got new front brakes tonight, but he has to replace the back ones, too.  Maybe Friday night.  My hair dresser comes to the house to cut my hair, and now my car repair guy comes here, too.  That is living the life if you ask me.

Running for President: update

I am running for president because of headlines like these:

War on the Boy Scouts
Atlanta Journal Constitution,  USA - May 28, 2008
By Jim Wooten | Wednesday, May 28, 2008, 08:08 AM

The war on the Boy Scouts continues.

It’ll either accept gays or be driven from existence. ...

Perhaps you’ve never read the Oath that a Boy Scout takes:

Scout Oath (or Promise)

On my honor I will do my best

To do my duty to God and my country

and to obey the Scout Law;

To help other people at all times;

To keep myself physically strong,

mentally awake, and morally straight.

(as in the straight and narrow, not straight vs. homosexual)

 The Boy Scouts has a national policy that declares:

Boy Scouts of America believes that homosexual conduct is inconsistent with the obligations in the Scout Oath and Scout Law to be morally straight and clean in thought, word, and deed. The conduct of youth members must be in compliance with the Scout Oath and Law, and membership in Boy Scouts of America is contingent upon the willingness to accept Scouting’s values and beliefs.”

A Scout representative was on the radio this morning addressing these current headlines.  “”These are traditions,” he kept insisting.  “They want to tamper with 100 year old traditions.”

Is it any wonder that we are losing ground as Christians?  The oath is not a tradition… these statements are TRUTHS.  They are RIGHT (as opposed to WRONG).  Why are we so afraid to acknowledge that there are truths that are higher than the mind (traditions) of man?  Why can’t we talk about right and wrong in the public square any more?  Traditions?  They change… they are not sacred.  The thing that makes this oath sacred is TRUTH.  God is TRUTH.  These are His TRUTHS.  How is the world ever going to know if we don’t tell them?

"Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel; therefore hear a word from My mouth, and give them warning from Me: When I say to the wicked, 'You shall surely die,' and you give him no warning, nor speak to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life, that same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood I will require at your hand.

Yet, if you warn the wicked, and he does not turn from his wickedness, nor from his wicked way, he shall die in his iniquity; but you have delivered your soul."                    Ezekiel 3:17-19       NKJV
