The Wedding
Not long ago, my dds and I went shopping for a shower at Target. We had a blast and took forever choosing a gift for our friend. My daughters were ashamed that once again I was “coffee drunk” and full of the giggles. They have assured me that when we go out they will NOT allow me to have sugar or my much adored coffee!!! Several days later, my oldest dd and I attended the shower together. We laughed, we cried and we left with much anticipation!! My dd had been officially invited to her first wedding and we could not wait!! I was so very touched that her name was included on the invitation. I joked with her that she would have to sit in the car and wait while we were at the reception. A note included stated that it was an “adult’ reception.
Friday evening, my dh, my oldest dd and I were honored to be invited to a wedding. This was not any wedding, but namely the wedding of our dear friend Tiffany. Tiffany is an amazing young woman. My dd loves here dearly and she has been an example for my dd of a young woman who is both adventurous and exciting and who loves the Lord deeply. I posted about her a long while ago. Tiffany is like a whirlwind of fresh air. Her hair has been many shades and her clothing is never ordinary. You can hear her laughter from across the room – and it is contagious!! And yet, her heart is passionate a full of love for God. She says hello any chance she gets and you never feel like a stranger when she is around. Her and her family have had a special place in our hearts for many years. While we have not been close, they have expressed a care for us and their children have shown a wonderful interest in our children through the years. We were thrilled to see her brother married not too long ago. It was a joy to see his wedding as I had prayed for a long time over his future and his then unknown future bride. The Lord placed him on my heart and so I prayed for him. So, back to Tiffany’s wedding…..
I am not one to cry at weddings. I have only cried at one……until Friday. When my oldest brother got married, it moved my heart so much that I wept. I am confident that there was never a more radiant bride than Tiffany. True to fashion, their wedding was traditional, but with lovely facets of personality shining through. I cried during the procession and through her new husband’s vows, but dear, dear Tiffany brought her lovely joy to her own vows and I found myself laughing, crying, and laughing once again. At their exuberant exit, my dd exclaimed over how joyous her new husband looked. My dh meant to bring the camera, but we forgot it at home. Alas, I have no pictures to share with you.
The wedding was held in a rustic barn that had been redone. There were beautiful palladium windows at either end of the barn. The ceremony was upstairs and the high rafters were left exposed. It was very cathedral-like. There was candlelight and it was so very lovely!!
There was dancing after dinner and dh, dd, and I had a blast dancing together. At one point, another man from our church asked our dd to dance. He took her out to do the shag. Our Dearest was grinning from ear to ear!!! Such a nice man, he told her that she was a “natural” and flattered dd. I thought she was going to burst with giggles!! I wish I had a photo of her dancing. It makes me smile to think of it!! She was even bold enough to give a good try at catching the bouquet!! She came very close, but another well-deserving single girl caught it. The cake was lovely and yellow!! It had little fuzzy bees nestled within the huge yellow gerbera daisies. We all had such a lovely time chatting, watching the bride dance, and chatting with others. My dd was thrilled that as the bride visited our table, she specifically gave her a hug. How kind-hearted she was!!! My dd is still talking about how much they must love each other since they looked so very, very happy!!! |

Let's take a hike!!!
While dad was gone, we went to this park.
It was the site of a turning point in the Revolutionary War. We took an amazing hike. It was quite warm, but we brought lots of water. The way was paved, but it seemed all uphill. We had so much fun!!! I am so glad that we went!!
Here are some of my dc at the first monument.
Here the kids are at the second monument.
Nat was especially taken by the park. It was so interesting to imagine the troops going through the woods. I think that one of the rangers was impressed with Nat's interest in the park.
If you are ever in SC, you should consider a visit to this wonderful park!!

The latest news....
First of all, we were blessed with a "new" car. Well, it has a lot of miles, but it is great on gas mileage. It is an antithesis of our 15 passenger van. The best part about it was that it was FREE!!!! The circumstances were not the best, but my dh's parents gave us this car. It is stick shift and so much fun to drive! I haven't driven stick in a long time and every time I go out, I come home asking dh questions about my technique. The first two days I drove it, my calves were killing me, But yesterday I drove all over town in it and I think I am getting used to it. I don't have a pic yet, but I'll post one soon. In order to get it, dh flew for the first time in years. He brought back many wonderful things for us. My favorite thing was a shelf for my pantry.
I have a HUGE pantry, but it is not practical. It is a long and narrow under the stairs space. When we moved in, it had wire shelving. I dislike this shelving immensely since things are always falling down between the wires. I scavanged some wood things for a temporary fix. I won't tell you what they were. They worked, but wasted alot of space. I have wanted this shelving for awhile. So while dh was driving home, he stopped at Ikea and picked this up for me. I am so glad to have a neat pantry once again!!!

Another thing was that dh's parents were going to let us have a treadmill. Unfortunately, it was too big to fit in the little car. I was so heartbroken!! I have longed for a treadmill for awhile as well. We will just have to think up some way to bring it down.
Dh also brought home some wonderful sausage that you just cannot find here and also shoo fly pies!! Yum!! He also brought our favorite tea cooler and birch beer. I will have to savor every taste!! He also got to see my parents and brother and help him pack some things for his big move. That move is supposed to happen this weekend. I hope that he has the help he needs to move in!
More news.....
This past Wed we were blessed to have a dear friend for dinner. He was in town for a conference. He even had to speak so you can see how important he is. :) He was kind enough to take time out of his busy schedule and visit us. It was so good to talk to him again. I only wish his wife and daughters were here. That would have been even better!
This morning, I found two more gecko eggs in the hut. Won't Nat be surprised when he finds out!. The gestation is several months so we still have two unhatched eggs in our incubator. We are hoping they will all hatch.
I must be more faithful to the blog. Life seems so busy right now. And yet, it is all the humdrum. Not often anything exciting. |

Young Hickory......
Today, I decided we would go on a little trip.
We have been studying the 1800s and just passed by the era of the Oregon trail and James Polk, so I thought it was fitting that we visit a nearby historic site. The James K Polk State Historic Site is not too far away., so we went for a visit. We had a wonderful time exploring. It would figure that I would forget my camera!!!
When we arrived, we walked their short nature trail. We saw bamboo and deer tracks. I wish we would have brought things to make a cast of the track! We also saw a brief film and walked through their small museum. And of course, we visited the grounds and outdoor buildings. It was very interesting. Especially since the children asked TONS of questions!! We even noticed that some of the prints of Polk on the walls of the museum were lithographs made by Nathaniel Currier!! How cool is that?!?!? We also saw a cotton gin and several spinning wheels. They had a neat old Mexican flag as well.
The children decided that life would have been alot quieter back then. Most of them thought that they would have liked living in those days. They imagined sleeping on beds with rope matresses and the lovely quilts. We considered how high the creek would have been and thought about all of the animals wandering around the fields. They especially liked the kitchen house with the big turkey wing and the deer antler towel rack. Nathaniel even found a long piece of bamboo that he asked if he could take home with him.
It was such a beautiful, warm and breezy day!! |
