Mar. 28, 2006 - Spring
Is it spring at your house? How do you know? Are the flowers starting to bloom? The grass starting to grow? At our house, we know it is spring by the amount of dirt everywhere, better yet, the mud everywhere. However, I am trying to keep an attitude of contentment and not complain about the overwhelming mess everywhere. So, I wrote a poem last night to remind me to be thankful for everything, even dirt. I thought I would share it with you:
The dirt is on the perlins,
on the mantle, on the floor,
give me just a minute,
I'm sure I'll find some more
Muddy handprints on the door
Muddy pawprints on the tile
I really should clean the floor
but I think I'll wait awhile
For surely if I scrub the floors
and get it clean inside
3 dogs, 2 cats, 8 children,
will run inside to hide.
The children went outside to play
they should have stayed in here,
for now they're little mud-monsters
with dirt stuck in their ears.
I suppose I should put them in the tub
but I fear I'll clog the drain,
Perhaps I'll set them on the step
and simply pray for rain.
I thank you Lord, for the Spring
for the dirt that you have sent
I promise to be thankful,
and in everything, Content.

I liked the part about setting them on the porch and praying for rain--a gentle, warm Spring rain, certainly. (Well, maybe not *too* gentle, else it wouldn't have the oomph to rid the little muckmonsters of their dirt.) You're a wonderful writer, and I really enjoy reading your posts.

Absolutely love the poem, it's great. I needed it on a day like today where we have some tremendous wind and even without going outside, I can SMELL the dirt in the air as the wind is beating on the house. We are under a tornado watch, good old Oklahoma. :-) Anyway, I've been cleaning, thanks for the reminder to be content.

Proverbs 31:25 "...she smiles at the future." And it looks like she smiles at the dirt! Have a great and dirty day.

I've learned to be thankful for my little dirt draggers. I am so blessed to have my family. Spring dirt is just part of it.
Neat poem!

I love this!!!!! I'm going to be sharing this link on my blog! Great!
As for the organizer... have you gotten it to work yet? My hubby's not home until tonight, so I'll ask him and I'm sure he can help. I'm not sure why you wouldn't be able to get it... Sorry about that... I haven't heard that from anyone else yet, so let's hope it's just something on your computer you have to push some button or something (smile).
Blessings,
Amy

Oh my aren't you just a clever poet! How creative! I sooo enjoyed your blog. I'm putting you on my friends list for sure. I only have 1 child (so far-would LOVE a bunch more), but I remember growing up in my split family of 6 kids and having many intimate moments with mud and puddles and bugs and...that's probably what MY mother was thinking! Boy do I have more sympathy for her these days!
What great memories your kids will have of growing though. I know I do!
Blessings,
Traci :)

I haven't seen a post for some time so I thought I'd drop by and let you know I was thinking of you. I've been anxiously awaiting a new post from you. I told my daughter all about you and we laughed together while reading some of your past posts. Thank you for that.
Hope all is well in your neck or the world!

I love your poem, that was very creative, way to go!
Someday there'll be less dirt tracked in the house, and you'll probably look back and find yourself missing sweeping up after them... so just enjoy them now, and clean it all up later... what a blessing your family is, clean or muddy! lol!
Blessings,
