What a wonderful family!
So, I did just what I always tell the children not to do - cut toward myself. And of course the knife slipped and I cut my finger pretty badly.
OK. It could use stitches. If one of the kids had done it, I'd have them at the hospital right away. The cut's about 3/4 " long and very deep. But here's the great thing about being in charge -- I will not go to the ER .... and no can make me!!!
(Lest you think I am being foolishly cavalier, I am able to control the bleeding with a pressure wrap. If you do that long enough, it will eventually heal! I'll just end up with an ugly scar. Good thing I have no vanity at all. )
I did consult with Jay and he has said that if it is still oozing when he gets home about 10 tonight, he will stitch it himself! I pointed out that that would not be the best way to reunite after 5 days apart. I am confident that I will remain stitch-free but with a lot of swelling, bruising and scarring. No biggie. ************
Here's our fun Ethan quote for today. Ethan: We learned in Sunday School how the 12 disciples climbed a mountain of food. Everyone else: ???? (I'm thinking, Feeding the 10,000 - food scraps maybe??) Ethan: Yeah. It was a mountain of olives.
 ************
He was pathetic earlier this week. When I got home from our church Mother/Daughter Banquet, he was feverish and complaining of a sore throat. When I looked, I could see the infection on his tonsils. Yep. Strept. So after we go to the doctor, and surprise them all by having one of the quickest and strongest positive instant strept tests, he is begging me for medicine at home.
By now, his fever is raging, his throat is on fire and he totally lethargic. In short, he just feels lousy. I have to tell him that the medicine will not cure him instantly and that he will still be sick the rest of that day and maybe even the next.
His eyes fill up and he says with a quivering lip as bravely as he can, "Yes, Mama." Awww. How adorably pathetic! He bounced back very quickly and spent the next day, no kidding, running around twice as loud to make up for the day of laying around!!
Speaking of adorable sons, Andrew got me the cutest Get-Well card with a giant candy bar today!! I had a terrible head ache and sore throat and was convinced that I was getting Ethan's strept. He is so thoughtful!!
And Madeline made dinner tonight after I cut myself. So this is for the two of them --
What a wonderful family I have!

did your DH have to stitch it up? Funny you would bring that up, I just had an appointment with my ob/gyn where he got into telling me about doing sutures on his own children at the kitchen table. Sounds like a useful skill for a husband/Dad, but not one I thought to consider before marrying.
Hope it is feeling better and healing well.

Jay did not stitch me, though he was not happy with me. The cut was bigger than I first thought and into the joint, which I had not noticed when it happened. Apparently, that was significant - greater risk of infection. And had he been here, I definitely would have had to go to the ER not only for stitching but for "exploration" to see if I had cut into the joint capsule itself. Even so, he said that we could just watch carefully for infection and leave it be now that I had waited so long. I remain *convinced* that this was the one perk I got from his absence - no ER visit!
Andrew, it should be noted, urged me from the beginning to go to the ER and thinks that divine Justice should at least visit me with an infection for my stubbornness. And if so, he has promised to visit me in the hospital (a joint infection would require IV antibiotics) to smugly say, "I told you so!"

Your Ethan quote was pretty funny. I read it to my Mom and she laughed. It would have been pretty funny though to see the looks on your face's as he said it! I'm sorry you cut yourself and hope it will heal soon.
Talk to you later
