The Open Mind
I saw a sign the other day that read: The mind is like an umbrella..it works best when it is open.
This saying has stuck in my head and given me a lot to think about. It seems to me that there has been a negative connotation associated with being closed minded on certain subjects. I personally feel that we can often be so open-minded that our brains are in danger of falling out! I remember a time when "standing up for what you believe" was considered a good thing, a noble quality. Today it is associated with intolerance, pig-headedness and of having a narrow-mind. I still say there is nothing wrong with knowing what and why you believe something and sticking to those beliefs regardless of what others might think. I know it is my intention to raise my children to stand behind what they know to be right even when it isn't popular. I guess there is something to be said for a broken umbrella after all. |

Good Eatin!!
Jacob is sitting in the kitchen sink eating bubbles. Just think of all the time I waste trying to prepare enticing, nutritious meals! Okay, so maybe bubbles aren't very nutritious, but in the enticing division, broccoli doesn't stand a chance. |

How do you do it?
I wish I had a dime for every time someone asks me this question. The truth is, I don't even know what the "it" is they are wondering about! How I keep my sanity?... How I am able to take a shower with a two year old in the house?....How I am able to go to the bathroom alone?....How I keep the house clean?.....How I can eat a two inch candy bar without dividing it between ten starving children? If these questions are any of the "it"s they are wondering about I can easily and quickly put their minds to complete rest. Here it goes: I have never been sane! (look at my choice of a husband)lol, I shower twice a year...every spring and fall, I believe in a family tub (kinda like the ever popular family bed), the children are tied to a chair for eight hours a day so they can't trash the house and I let them starve! Now you know just how I do it. (smile) |

GlaGla
Do you have a glagla? We have a glagla. Every house needs a glagla. A glagla is something that keeps the whole family on their toes as one never knows when it will come up among the missing. In our house the glagla is a mint green crocheted blanket. I know you have had one at some point if you have children. It can be a favorite teddy bear, a piece of cloth, or a worn blanket....it doesn't really matter. They all have the same familiar trademarks: loved, worn, dirty, smelly, embarrassing,..etc. Over the years we have had many glaglas and have made many frantic searches in the middle of the night to find this special lovey. However, I know as the years pass and the children grow, they will inevitably replace their glaglas with more permanent, tangible things and I will find myself wishing for one more midnight search...not only to find the lost lovey, but the lost little child that has grown to be a young man. |
