Air Force Homeschoolers
Sep. 26, 2007 - Christian first, homeschooler second..
Posted in Home schooling

Because I am a Christian, it very definitely influences how I homeschool. In fact, it is a very big part of why we made the decision to homeschool and our desire to bring our children up in the Lord. Somewhere along the way of many many years of homeschooling, my little pea brain can also start to correlate that Christian=should be homeschooling for other families. Hmmm.......That one equals the other and if another family is not homeschooling, they are somehow not quite 'there yet' as Christians.

Don't get me wrong...I love homeschooling and believe wholeheartedly it's what God has led our family to do. It is such a big part of our lifestyle that I can't imagine life differently. But to somehow take what has been a blessing for us and then make it a requirement for fellow Christians? Something is off balance there.

I have friends with lovely children who have always been in school. I know women who would dearly love to be home with their children, but are unable to for various reasons--husbands that don't support that ideal or circumstances that dictate otherwise. My heart goes out to them. I know God has a 'best plan' for families, and I do believe homeschooling can be a big part of that.

But, dear Lord, please let me never forget to remember Colossians 3:12:

Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.

That was good. I agree totally. We have in the Christian community the "mommy wars". I stay at home and you don't so your not a real Christian wife submitting to your husband. Well if your husband tells you to get out there and work get prayed up and get on monster.com cause you need to submit.

Or if your husband doesn't want you to homeschool (which used to be my case) then your kids are going to school plain and simple and you need to just pray over them everyday and send them off.

We should not look down on people just because they don't do something we feel God is leading us to do, they might not have got that leading yet. It might not be time for them yet........Good post

It is so easy to fall into that mindset. =/
Of course, the next step is saying it's a sin if you don't homeschool; which, I'm pretty sure, is no where in scripture! ;o)
Great post!

Thanks for a thought-provoking post. We criticize our culture for putting us down, but often do exactly the same thing!

I'm accountable to God for MY choices...and that's it!

Oct. 13, 2007 - Your Lovely &True Thoughts on Home Schooling
Posted by free2fly
I so very much agree with what you have shared. Home Schooling is such a tremdous blessing. But God needs ALL of us as His agents of: change, blessing, truth, comfort and integrity, in all parts of life. We home school my youngest, he's 14. We have for 7 yrs & I see God's handprints all over our lives enabling us to do this wonderful thing. But, our oldest (who is 23) we were in no position to consider that for. For one thing we just were late coming to Christ and were not equipped in any of the categories (maturity, financially, emotionally, spiritually), yet God met us there as well.

I have so many friends who do a wonderful job with their children and admire that the children manage to thrive in a very challenging environment through public and even private school.

Paul in the NT was very clear that Christians should never put shoulds and oughts on each other, but, instead be working out our own salvation, while being an encouragement to each other.

I only say these things, not because you need to hear them (obviously you get this LOL:), but, bc I have thought the same things myself, just never said it out loud. Lord, may we always be grateful and show You our gratitude for the gifts You give us, while holding up ALL families, young people and parents, because we all need your grace, mercy, hedge of protection, wisdom and favor.

Thanks for the thoughts!

P.S. I am so GRATEFUL for our military families, and pray for you very much. God bless. My 14 yr old wants to go into the military.
