September Smith Happenings

I've not been blogging much lately, and for those who follow my personal stories and thoughts I am sorry. Yes, we recovered nicely from the swine flu. Was it supposed to be bad? It seemed pretty mild here--thankfully! Yet we got a bit behind in this and that in the process. Here are a few (no, make that several!) highlights of the past week or week and a half around the Smith home:
  • We went through my children's summer and winter clothing items, deciding what was outgrown or would be by next spring and setting it aside and then labeling and putting up what will!
  • Mom attended a large children's consignment sale and bought clothing for four of her five children (the eldest is in juniors/misses clothing now). It took two trips and precisely $203 to make it through the list! (Though I did also pick up a few Christmas presents too!)
  • We did a small amount of Fall Cleaning here and there--much with "a lick and a promise" to do more later!
  • I quit making sourdough bread 2 or 3 weeks ago. It was taking too much time. I hope to get back to it soon, but for now it is buying the whole grain ones at the grocery store. I just couldn't keep up with my children who were eating 4 loaves every 2-3 days and do everything else I need to do right now.
  • I changed my homemade laundry soap from the Fels-Naptha recipe to an Ivory soap-based one. However, now I have received a homemade soap kit from Virginia Soaps and Scents and am going to try that one out too and compare them.
  • I attended the annual library sale and only spent $16!
  • I attended a fun Sunday School party.
  • My husband changed out two of our old ceiling fans for new ones we bought on clearance at Lowe's. The news ones look great and are so quiet yet so much more efficient too. To think we only spent $40 for both!
  • I freecycled the two old ceiling fans and some amusement park free tickets we just didn't have time to use.
  • More review items are rolling in. I'm ready to post four or five of them if I can only steal a few minutes here and there to do so!
  • I prepared for and hosted another Preschool Activity Bags swap for some ladies in my local homeschool support group.
  • I am heading up a fundraiser for our local American Heritage Girls Troop and we attended our meeting earlier this week.
  • I attended a Cub Scout Leader's Meeting.
  • I attended our Cub Scout Pack Meeting in which my son earned his Arrow of Light.
  • I celebrated my birthday.
  • I celebrated the arrival of Fall! Yes, evenings in the 50's and afternoons in the 70's here in Alabama means fall is here already! We also scheduled our annual chimney sweep appointment.
  • I helped get my husband ready for attending Wood Badge Advanced Scout Leader Training.
  • I got caught up on the phone yesterday with a good friend I hadn't spoken with in months! I found out that she is expecting her eighth and congratulated her!
  • I got one nap this week. Sunday afternoon. I can often rate my weeks by how many naps I get. A one nap week honestly isn't good. It seems that yours truly operates on a sleep deficit most of the time. I suppose many moms do. I need to learn to rely on God's grace better, I know.
  • I am drinking fully caffeinated Earl Grey tea this morning. Yup, no half and half decaf/regular this morning. No herb tea. I'll probably switch over to herb tea later today. But for this morning . . .
Okay, I know I've forgotten something, but that is all I can remember!

Sounds like it's been a busy but productive month for you. I need to start baking my own bread. I sold my bread machine at our yard sale a few weeks ago.
