Having Family Fun: Family Movie Night
A couple of weeks ago I noticed a great idea on a friend's blog: the Our Family Cinema Kit.
I was still tweaking our new school schedule--and family schedule. After plugging in our family's scout evenings and church evenings, I was wanting to do something "extra" (yet easy and inexpensive) a couple of nights per week. One day as I checked my friend Sheri's blog I saw this great idea. Sheri is one creative, busy gal--and she has gotten very creative with the workboxes idea which has been taking the homeschooling world by storm! Be sure to check out her blog linked above.
Here is the direct link to Sheri's Cinema Kit (scroll half-way down the page). Enjoy this kit with your family. And be sure to leave Sheri a comment when you visit her blog, especially if you decide to try this out in your own family.
Our first official Family Cinema Night was this evening, as last weekend my sweet husband was at Wood Badge Advanced Boy Scout Leader Training. We checked out a G-rated movie from the library, so it cost us nothing for the movie: Mr. Troop Mom with George Lopez. Free is good.
I had already picked up clearance movie candy at Walgreen's for 32 cents a box--plus a couple of jumbo-sized bags of red licorice which I transferred into zipper style snack bags. My eight year old had the task of cleaning up and setting up the family room for movie night. My eleven year old "sold" the concessions and served glasses of water with them because--well, the candy itself had plenty of sugar already! My four year old took all our tickets. My thirteen year old had "clean up" duty. We had a great family time and it only cost a few dollars for the snacks.
I'll write about the other two special weekly activities another day, but in the meantime go have some fun with your own family!
