A Life Better Than I Deserve

She Looketh Well . . . is hosting a Blog Party!

I was over at a local friend's blog this evening and noticed a blog party. Since in looking over Michelle's blog I noticed many interesting topics, I thought I would go ahead and join in and tell my readers about her blog while I was at it! My name is Michelle, I am wife to one great Baptist History Professor, and I have five children (plus two in heaven)

So, I now must tell you a bit about what my blog is about. Well, I consider myself a fairly new blogger. I am also considering as I just celebrated my first year blogging whether I want to change anything up on my blog--redirect my interests and topics at all. I'm still prayerfully considering that.

Perhaps most obvious to someone new to my blog, is that I review books and homeschooling curriculum. This is a perfect fit for me. I love books. I love homeschooling (some days!), and we live on a limited ministry income so cannot afford to try out every new and exciting curricular option--even when I do have a child who might truly benefit from a different approach. Plus I have secretly wanted to be a writer since I was in the fourth grade. This is my second year reviewing for The Old Schoolhouse magazine through the Homeschool Crew. I honestly love it. I love trying out new curricula. I have found that with five children, the same curricula does NOT always work for all my children.

I have an easy student, I have a dyslexic student, I have kinesthetic learners, visual learners, right handed children, southpaws--the list could go on! Teaching all these different learners has been one way God has been stretching me the past couple of years.

You may notice that I have also begun reviewing other Christian books. That is because I was not supposed to be asked to remain with the Homeschool Crew this year. It was supposed to be a one year opportunity. Somehow God led them to ask me--and twenty-four others--to continue on for yet another exciting year--just after I signed on with the other Christian book opportunities. I just have to trust that God had a plan in that!

Yet book reviews is not all this blog is about! I'm also interested in healthy eating and freezer and bulk cooking. We also have some food allergies we contend with here, so the usual recipes the busy moms use don't usually work here. We tend to cook from scratch. Sometimes I share some of our recipes here. I also am interested in thrifty living topics--homeschooling five children on one almost full-time income means I have to be thrifty!

Another obvious thing about us is that we are big scouting supporters here. My husband and I are leaders in BSA and I am an AHG (American Heritage Girls) leader as well. My husband wears many hats in Boy Scouts--Committee Chair, Trainer, Unit Commissioner, Day Camp Rangemaster, District Committee member, and more. He is also the Executive Vice President for an organization titled The Association of Baptists for Scouting. This keeps us busy, too.

We are also a ministry family. My husband has served in pastoral roles, in music ministry roles, and as a professor. He is currently teaching online and we have been actively involved in church planting in the past few years. We have stepped back from that recently and are waiting to see whether God sends us to another ministry any time in the near future. My husband also volunteers as an Alabama Disaster Relief Chaplain with the SBC.

So, that is a bit about me and my blog. I look forward to meeting more of Michelle's readers.

Nice to meet you! I have six children and I homeschool as well. It is challenging me! God is good and gives me wisdom. I agree, my children learn differently and I am constantly tweaking my methods as well as my curriculum. I am pretty frugal, so I try to use what I have.

Have a great day! Stop by sometime. I'm at www.afirefighterswife.blogspot.com

Visiting from the blog party! Nice to meet you! We also homeschool (and I was homeschooled growing up!). My olderst daughter and oldest son both just recently expressed an interest in scouting. So, I may have some questions for you in the future. :-)
