A Pastors and Wives Retreat
Dan and I packed out bags for an overnight retreat. We dropped the kids at their aunt and uncle's home and head to the Hawthorne Inn and Suites for a LOVELY dinner and night out. The speaker that came in was in the catagory of Motivational Speaker - *visions of Chris Farley begin to swirl around my head* LOL
He was very good and VERY SCRIPTURAL, which is rare with today's psychology and motivational circuit. His theme was on what we ooze in our lives and how that draws or repels others in our lives. Deep calling deep, iron sharpens iron kinda stuff...
Ok, now Dan and I are unusual in that when we have time alone we just wanta be friends and play together. We had the typical quiet couple time of any such retreat but we also brought along our portable cribbage game 'cause we just enjoy playing games without the kiddos interrupting all the time. We had a blast!!!
Saturday morning I had shades of that stomach thing but recovered and was able to get through the morning splendidly. It was quite the insightful weekend and a relaxing time for both of us...
Birthday Fun
We snagged the kiddos from Aunt Vera's and headed home to get naps all around in preparation for the long evening. None of them really slept that well while away from home. None of us usually do when we are away from our own beds.
I also was able to get four loaves of bread baked before heading out to take Emmy to a birthday party and then get JoNathan to his picture session before the banquet. Davy and Josh slept on until around 4:30pm and then Dan brought Davy to play with his little friend at the party, too. The party was at my quilting friend's home. I got to stay and visit a bit before heading to the next calendared event...
Boy Scout Annual Dinner
You will not believe this but Dan and I walked into the banquet at 5:00pm and they had already eaten dinner and cleared the tables and were starting on the program. We missed dinner!!! So at this point all I had to eat was a pretty big breakfast a slice of bread when it came out of the oven and some birthday cake. I was HUNGRY!!! LOL
We watched as all the boys got their awards including JoNathan getting his first rank in scouting and then there was a speaker and an auction and then finally we got some cake - yes, MORE CAKE!!! LOL By this time my blood sugar is rebelling on me... I NEEDED PROTEIN!!!!!
JoNathan is the Chaplain's Assistant so he got to pray before the meal - which we missed - and then he prayed at the end - which I missed because I had to go and get kiddos at the party. I was totally impressed with the leaders and the boys, though. What a great group!!!
We headed home after this long, LOng, LONG DAY and pajamad all the kids and sent them to bed. Dan and I finally got our bags unpacked, ate a sandwich and had a glass of tea and settled in for the night...
Relapse of Stomach Virus
At 2:30am my stomach woke me with cramps and horrible pain. It was no wonder it had decided to rebel from all the food I had eaten throughout the day that was totally HORRIBLE for me... LOL I was up for the next 3 hours unable to sleep from the pain. Needless to say, I did not go to church on Sunday...
Laying in Bed ALL DAY LONG!!!
I did not get out of bed all day yesterday except to get 7up and crackers. I finally made some mashed potatoes from dried flakes some time yesterday afternoon but I put nothing else in. I watched more television in one day than I have watched in a month! You would not believe how much bad doctrine is floating around out there!!! The name it and claim it, health, wealth and prosperity drivle pervades the Sunday morning viewing. It was sickening...
I finally got a movie out and then waited for Ed Young Sr. and Adrian Rogers programs. There was so much more meat in those two sermons!!! They actually used the Bible and not some fluffy mumbo jumbo garbage. It was a good thing...
Monday, back to it...
Now, we are starting another week. My tummy is still not wanting much so it will be bland food and ginger sprinkled in water for a few days. I can only take so much of the 7up. Not a big fan... but it does the trick.
We are back to school and have baseball starting this week. Two out of four are playing this year. We also have the regular routine and two play dates and a quilting date set up. I am not planning on straying far from the house this week. We also have Music History books to finish in anticipation of the coming test next Sunday afternoon.
Next week will be much busier... we have homeschool conference coming and I am getting excited about going. I am even more excited that Blest is coming with me!!! YIPPEEEEEE SKIPPEEEEEEE...
More later and a few more reviews are in the works so stay tuned...
