A little angry...
No wedding...
Long story...
Unstable couple...
No cake...
I am out the money I spent ...
I don't have money to just blow...
There is a chance I will get money for the cost of ingredients but I am not sure yet...
I was very careful with finding things on sale and at discounted prices for this...
I won't do this again without getting paid up front...
...even if it is a church member!!!
UPDATE: She is paying the money I should have charged for the deposit (which covers all my ingredients I bought) and then a $10.00 equipment fee. Next time I will get a deposit before starting anything.
Thanks for you hugs and understanding!!! I love you gals... (((HUGSRIGHTBACK)))

Deposit up front
Posted by HomeschoolCPA
So sorry you got stung by a canceled order. As a CPA I talk to a lot of small business owners and congratulate you on starting your own small business! I'm working on building a website that addresses work at home moms, especially homeschooling moms like you. I hope to have it up and running this summer. TOS is also going to run an article I wrote called Wanna be a WAHM (Work at Home Mom)? I'm pretty excited about that.
Do you ever ask for a deposit, like 25% of the total cost before you start a large job? I don't usually ask for an up front payment when I do tax retuurns, but when I do a large accouting job for a client I ask for a $50 deposit with a signed engagement letter. I don't think you need to get a signed letter, but asking for the cash to cover ingredients is certainly reasonable.
God Bless your efforts!

That is just wrong of them. Church couple or not--a real Christian would PAY WHAT THEY OWE regardless of whether or not the wedding went on.

I definitely think getting a deposit each time is a wise thing to do. I'm glad the potential bride gave you money to cover your costs.
