Works for us... Thursday?
I can never get those memes up on the right days! LOL
Life has been so nuts this summer we were anticipating the potty training thing to wait until fall so that we could just spend some time with the learning process. Now, granted, we have been talking about potty stuff and God knows Josh has seen his dad and brothers enough to know the process but we just did not see him being really ready up to this point. Well, to our surprise he declared in his most grown up three year old voice yesterday that he did NOT want to wear diapers anymore and he proceeded to go to the potty with his dad and then found his underwear and put it on. He has been toying with the underwear thing but we were still forcing the diapers because I just don't have the willingness, if you would, to clean up all those "accidents". I am NOT good with all the accident stuff that comes with potty training. Call it a shortcoming if you will....
We tried to potty train J(13) when he was 2 and after two really frustrating weeks we put him back in diapers until he was nearly 3. He was one month shy of 3 when he made his choice to move out of diapers. Our daughter was on her way to being potty trained quickly when we had Davy so she regressed until, finally, at the age of 3 1/2 she just went on her own and then never looked back. Davy did the same thing at 3 but has had some "accidents" along the way and would rather not have to interrupt his "work" to take time to potty. At the age of almost 7 he has finally gotten to where he is not up every night going potty and he makes it all the time now. For him it never was about the "knowing how" but the "taking time". It is very much a personality thing with him.
Just in time!!! Josh declared that he was done and has been accident free for 24 hours. Will he have some accidents? Prolly... but he is in underwear now and we are NOT going back. I am now free of diapers for the rest of my life!!! WOOT!!!!!!
So, what works for us... is waiting until THEY tell us they are ready. They tell us with their actions (can dress themselves and pull pants up and down, stay dry through the night and do other big kid things) and their words and then they are potty trained with very little stress if any. It works for us! We are now done... and that works for us, too!!! LOL

You'll be free of diapers (we call them nappies here) until you're a GRANDMA on babysitting duty!
LOL!
Cheers, Wilm
