Posted in MEMES
Thirteen benefits to our family with the television off!!!
1. Read more - WAY MORE
2. Have a quieter home - no blaring commercials
3. No more sheltering the children from images and ideas we don't approve of
4. Play outside instead of sitting in front of the Boob tube
5. Play games together in the evenings
6. Take family walks after dinner instead of...
7. No more commercials!!!
8. We control the viewing instead of it controlling us
9. No more late night television temptation - earlier to bed earlier to rise...
10. No more distraction to homework and school time
11. The den stays cleaner (the tv area)
12. Family discussions instead of distractions
13. More stuff gets done around the house instead of wasting time doing nothing

Hi! I usually won't post at T13's that don't allow me to link back to my site, but this was kind of an interesting one. Most of your advantages sound pretty good, but the sheltering one....are they very young kids? Because they're going to encounter things you don't approve of sooner or later, right? I don't know if I hold with sheltering; seems to me that it makes it likely that the children will have a really RUDE awakening some day.
But it was a great list...I hope you can do something to enable comments from bloggers who don't use your same platform because you seem like you'll be bringing a lot to T13.
Our site is http://bucknakedpolitics.typepad.com
Don't worry: no nudity! Today's post (by my colleague) is on the constitution and separation of powers.

Isn't it wonderful what you can accomplish when you aren't watching TV? Except for news, I rarely watch it at all.

We let them know all they need to know when they need to know it. We do not feel a television or any other form of media should take that role from us. We are the parents and we should do the parenting. Believe me they know what they need to and when they ask questions we shoot straight with them on everything - and then we also let them know what the Bible has to say on it all because that is the textbook for us on everyday living. :)
Thanks for stopping by and commenting. Not sure why it would not let you leave a link. Others have been able to do that with no problems. Sorry... Leaving it in the comments works for me, too. :)

I stand corrected... I tested it and it does not let you do that. It used to I think. They took that option away when they took our javascript I am guessing. I also tried to do the html for it in the comments and you see what happened there. No such success... Well, if you leave your link I will come and see you! I promise!!! :) Thanks all for stopping in.
Blessings,

Did that help? I find that in Firefox (which is what I use almost exclusively) that it looks fine but then I try it in IE and it is wonky. Hope that fixed it for you! :)

Good T13.
Unlike your first anonymous commenter, I agree and fully support sheltering. He/she obviously doesn't know much about what that means or how to do it properly. :) LOL
We not only turned our TV off, but got rid of all of 'em completely. Haven't missed it AT ALL!
Blessings,
Lindsay
