Does Anybody Hear Her? - Casting Crowns

This song called "Does Anybody Hear Her" has been playing on the radio a lot lately. It is currently number 11 on K-LOVE's top songs list. I posted a link to the music video, if you want to listen to it. By now, it's definitely my favorite song.

Here are the lyrics.

She is running
A hundred miles an hour in the wrong direction
She is trying
But the canyon's ever widening
In the depths of her cold heart
So she sets out on another misadventure just to find
She's another two years older
And she's three more steps behind

Does anybody hear her? Can anybody see?
Or does anybody even know she's going down today
Under the shadow of our steeple
With all the lost and lonely people
Searching for the hope that's tucked away in you and me
Does anybody hear her? Can anybody see?

She is yearning
For shelter and affection
That she never found at home
She is searching
For a hero to ride in
To ride in and save the day
And in walks her prince charming
And he knows just what to say
Momentary lapse of reason
And she gives herself away

Does anybody hear her? Can anybody see?
Or does anybody even know she's going down today
Under the shadow of our steeple
With all the lost and lonely people
Searching for the hope that's tucked away in you and me
Does anybody hear her? Can anybody see?

If judgment looms under every steeple
If lofty glances from lofty people
Can't see past her scarlet letter
And we never even met her

If judgment looms under every steeple
If lofty glances from lofty people
Can't see past her scarlet letter
And we never even met her

Never even met her

Does anybody hear her? Does anybody see?
Or does anybody even knows she's going down today
Under the shadow of our steeple
With all the lost and lonely people
Searching for the hope that's tucked away in you and me

Does anybody hear her? Does anybody see?
Does anybody even know she's going down today?
Under the shadow of our steeple
With all the lost and lonely people
Searching for the hope that's tucked away in you and me
Does anybody hear her? Does anybody see?

He is running a hundred miles an hour in the wrong direction

My Stories

I am currently writing three stories. I can't tell you much about them now, but maybe later I will tell you more.

The first one I am writing with my friend. All I can tell you about it is that it has something to do with fish.

The second one is a story that takes place in the future. In this story, there are hovercars and laser cannons and stuff. I wish I could tell you more, but I'm afraid that somebody might take it.

The third one takes place in the past. In this story, there are imaginary creatures that my friend made up. They are called "Piffons." A Piffon is a giant fire-breathing pigeon. Then there are the Piffon trainers, who care for and, as the name says, train the Piffons.

Please tell me what you think. I know I didn't tell you much. I'm really sorry I can't tell you more. Maybe when I write some more I'll give you a preveiw.

My Hamster

Posted in My pets
I would like to tell whoever is reading this about my Hamster, Rover.  Rover is a female Syrian Hamster. She is golden-brown with a white underside and white band across her back. I got her on december 3rd, 2005 as an early Christmas present. She is still fairly young and full of energy. Sometimes when I go by her cage at night she scratches on the glass because she wants to see me. I play with her anytime she wants to play. I make sure that she's treated like royalty in my house. She doesn't have much to worry about in my house. I have two cats, but they don't pay much attention to her. She watches out when my baby sister is around because sometimes the baby gets really excited. But the baby is getting better at being gentle with the pets. Rover is very tame and and stays in my hands if I want her to. Of all the small pets I've had throughout my life, she is my favorite. She is my perfect (or near-perfect) pet. Hamsters are some of the easiest pets to keep, and in my opinion, some of the best. I had many Siberian Dwarf Hamsters when I lived in Texas and this is my favorite breed, but Rover is still my favorite small pet (as I said before). I am very happy that I have such a great pet.

P.S. If you don't want a billion hamsters, do not keep male and female hamsters together, because they breed very quickly and very often. And to avoid injury from fighting, I do not recommend keeping more than one Syrian in one cage, and do not keep only males of any breed (of course, you can have only males if it's one per cage).

Meet Redfish

Posted in My pets
I am going to post a message about each of my pets, and first I'm doing Redfish, my Red Wagtial Platy. I'll try to get some pictures sometime.

I got Redfish sometime after Kikkoman the Betta died last June, and along with her I got Sashimi the Black Variatus Platy (Different story). She is large and very tame. When I feed my fish, she's often the first one to get to the food, if the Danios don't get to it first. She likes to stay in her cave near the filter. Sometimes she hangs out with Mozilla the Bronze Corydoras Catfish (Yes, I did name her after an internet browser). She moves slow and hides a lot. She's almost invisible in her cave except for her shining silver eyes. She is probably the dominant fish. She's my second longest living fish next to Mozilla. I don't really have a favorite fish, but I sure do love Redfish.

Redfish died of unknown causes Spring 2006.

Dyed fish

At your pet shop, you might see fish with odd bright lines or maybe a tank full of "rainbow" parrotfish. I'm not talking about the Neon Tetras which have that naturally, I'm talking about dyed fish! These fish are injected with paint, then sold to pet shops everywhere. Here's the thing: This stuff is toxic to them! These fish will suffer, and eventually die. This is bad for the fishkeepers too, as they'll be losing their fish left and right! There is no reason to kill these poor creatures. The people who are unthoughtful enough to do this don't care one bit! They do it all for money! That's called greed, and it's a bad thing. Even one of the most commonly kept catfish, the Bronze Corydoras is injected with red dye. These fish are getting a lethal injection. For what? All for a little color. Most people don't know they bought a dyed fish. If you see one, DO NOT BUY IT! This is very upsetting and should be illegal.

These are some new dyed fish being sold in the UK. Notice how they have three lines "tattooed" along the side, and, even more grossly, fake lipstick has been tattooed around their mouths.

Can you REALLY train a cat?

Who thinks you can train a cat? Who thinks you can't? Well, it depends on the cat, and her owner. I have two cats, both female, and they're biological sisters. My dad isn't really a pet person and says it's impossible to train a cat. So I wanted to see if he was right. Sometimes, when you hold a treat out for a cat, she'll sit down a little then stand on her hind legs. So, I taught Mimi, my Tortoiseshell American Shorthair to sit. You can teach many cats to sit using this method: Hold a treat out to the cat, just out of her reach, and say "Sit!" When the cat sits just before she stands on her rear legs, give her the treat and pet her. Do this over a period of days, and soon, you'll have a cat who actually sits on your command! When I told my dad, he didn't believe me. I showed my mom, who told my dad, and then my dad acted like it was a miracle!

My New Platy

I got another Platy today! He is black with a fire colored dorsal fin. I haven't thought of a name for him yet. I have a female Red Wagtail Platy too. My new one is a male, so I might have baby Platies sometime.

We made a new Guinea Pig cage!

We made a new Guinea Pig cage! The Guinea Pigs really liked it. They liked it so much that they were doing something called "popcorning," which is basically jumping for joy. We had them in a 20 gallon aquarium with a sliding lid, but my mom let me have that for Rover. Rover is my female Syrian Hamster, incase you didn't know. We have to feed our Guinea Pigs about a cup of fresh vegetables a day! They like green pepper and Romaine lettuce. We also give them Timothy hay. Rover likes the hay too, but she doesn't eat it as much as she uses it for her nest. I give her carrots, berries, apples and other fresh fruits and vegetables. When I give her blueberries, I have to know "the trick" so I don't have a purple Hamster! What I do is break a piece of berry off, then hold it right up to her mouth. Then she grabs it in her mouth and eats it without using her paws! If she ever just sets it on the ground, I'd take it away so she doesn't get it allover herself. Well, that's all for now! I guess I started a post about the Guinea Pigs and talked more about Rover!

A beautiful poem...

I didn't make this one, I just like it.

A fire-mist and a planet,
A crystal and a cell,
A jelly-fish and a saurian,
And caves where the cave-men dwell;
Then a sense of law and beauty
And a face turned from the clod, --
Some call it Evolution,
And others call it God.

A haze on the far horizon,
The infinite, tender sky,
The ripe, rich tint of the cornfields,
And the wild geese sailing high;
And all over upland and lowland
The charm of the golden-rod, --
Some of us call it Autumn,
And others call it God.

Like tides on a crescent sea-beach,
When the moon is new and thin,
Into our hearts high yearnings
Come welling and surging in:
Come from the mystic ocean,
Whose rim no foot has trod, --
Some of us call it Longing,
And others call it God.

A picket frozen on duty,
A mother starved for her brood,
Socrates drinking the hemlock,
And Jesus on the rood;
And millions who, humble and nameless,
The straight, hard pathway plod, --
Some call it Consecration,
And others call it God.

Another pet!

I got a Guinea Pig yesterday! I paid for him with my own money, but my mom bought another one for my brother and sister to share. Mine is named Benjamin and he is tortioseshell, and the other one is gray, white and cream and he's named Timothy. They really enjoy eachother's company! I'll keep you updated on the new pets!

Success!!!!!!!!!!

Rover the Hamster is hand tame! It took about four days. She's still a bit skittish, but I'm working on that. Besides, she's still young. Young Hamsters are usually skittish -- And very active!

But...

ROVER IS HAND TAME!!!

I just got my own Hamster!

I just got my OWN Hamster! Her name is Rover, and she is a dark brownish/goldish Syrian Hamster (A.K.A. Teddy Bear Hamster) with a white "saddle." I originally went to the Pet Shop to get a 29 gallon aquarium combo, but it turns out it's just a tank and a lid. Nothing else. So I was looking at the tank, which was $49.99, and my parents decided to let me get an early Christmas present. I looked at the hamsters, and my mom asked me if I wanted one. I said, "Dad probably wouldn't let me have one." She said, "It's more practical in many ways than an aquarium. You can interact with hamsters, and they're cheaper than getting a whole aquarium, and you don't have the chemistry to worry about. I'm sure dad will understand." My sister wanted one, but she shares a room with me so she would get to see it too. My whole family enjoys Rover, but the bad part is, the cats enjoy Rover too. I have to protect my pet from the cats. We've had Siberian Dwarf Hamsters before and the cats didn't bother them too much. Well, that's all I have to say about Rover. Good Bye!

Look at this funny picture!

This is my old fish, Kikkoman. I found a picture of him and doctored it up, so now he's ready for Christmas! It's creepy but funny at the same time.

If Kikkoman was really "Santa," People would have to say this:

"Kikkoman brings the good kids presents, but he gives the bad kids a bag of aquarium gravel."

A Little Bit About Me

I thought the people who visit my blog would like to know a bit about me.

My name is Anneliese, and I am a 14 year old girl. I live in Arizona with my mom, dad, 2 sisters (1 and 8 years old), 2 brothers (11 and 17 years old), 2 cats (both 4 years old), and of course, my fish. I like learning about fish and aquariums.

I have one red, white, blue and orange Betta named Independence in a 1.60 gallon aquarium. I have a 10 gallon aquarium with one Peppered Corydoras Catfish, one Bronze, and one hybrid. The Peppered one is Behemoth, the Bronze is Mozilla, and I don't have a name for the hybrid. I keep them with a Longfin Zebra Danio named Trogdor, a Longfin Blue Danio named Cinderayna, and a Red Wagtail Platy named Redfish. As you can see, I love fish.

One of my cats is a female Mitted Seal Point Ragdoll named Buddy, and the other is a Tortoiseshell American Shorthair named Mimi. Buddy is more of a house cat, but that's what Ragdolls were bred for. Mimi loves to hunt and run around outside. If Mimi lets you pick her up, she must be sick. Buddy is very quiet, but Mimi is very talkative.

That's enough about my critters.

There is a ravine by my house that I like to play in. I like to play games where it doesn't matter if you get dirty. Everyone knows dirt can be pretty fun! There is a forest of bamboo by a mountain near my house. We call it the "Bamboo Fort." If you climb up a rock behind it, you can see a bunch of stuff.

Well, that's all for now!

Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays?

Some people do not like to say the word "Christmas" because it "offends" them. But if it offends them, should they be celebrating Christmas? ABSOLUTELY NOT! When a person is offended by the word "Christmas," celebrating the holiday of Christmas just shows that they're greedy. Christmas is not meant to be a way to get more stuff. It is, as we all know, the day we celebrate Christ's birth. Sometimes, when you're talking about more that one Holiday, it's okay to say, "Happy Holidays," but when you're saying it because you don't want to say "Christmas," that's just wrong. Sometimes, you might see a box of cards in a store that says "Holiday Cards," when they are clearly Christmas cards. You are free to not celebrate Christmas if you don't like the word, and if you do not like the word "Christmas," you don't have to celebrate it! People have found ways to eliminate Christianity from everything, and we don't need it to go further.

My Favorite Sayings

These are some sayings I like. They are all true, or mostly true. I will put the meanings after the sayings.

"What people need more of is less of everything."*= Some people have too much stuff, and they're always getting more stuff. This makes them greedy and selfish.

"You're not a true fisherman until you fall in the lake." = To properly do a job, like fishing, you need to know the dangers so you can avoid them.

"Do what you can, with what you have, where you are. Use it up, wear it out, do without, pass it on, or recycle it." = Make use of what you have, but use it wisely.

How it all started

This is how my love for fish and growing knowledge of them started. It goes back to Sunday, December 19, 2004. We got a Wal-Mart gift card from my grandparents for Christmas. The first time we went since we got the gift card, I got a set of computer games. The second time, I didn't see anything I liked. We were near the fish, and my dad teased me and said, "How about a goldfish?" Then I said, "No, I don't want a goldfish. Can I get a Betta?" Then he told me to ask my mom, so I did, and she said yes! She told me to have my older brother (named Tony) help me pick one, so Tony and I went to look at the fish. He pointed out some healthy ones, but they were not what I was looking for. I picked up one of those little cups that Wal-Mart keeps the fish in (poor fish), and behind it I saw what I was looking for; I saw Kikkoman. I lifted the cup that he was in up, and said, "Tony, I like this one. Is he healthy?" Then Tony said, "I think he is a bit healthier than these ones." So I picked a 1 gallon aquarium for him, and some gravel and food, and Tony suggested the name "Kikkoman," and the name stuck. I brought him home, read the directions for the tank, set it up, and put him in his new home. I did more research in one month on fish than I have ever done on anything else.  About a month later, I got a 10 gallon tank for him and put him in it with a peppered Corydoras Catfish named Behemoth, and a Panda Corydoras Catfish named Leviathan. I kept doing research, and now everyone I know comes to me for advice on fish! A nieghbor across the street only goes by what I say!

Sadly, sometime in June, Kikkoman died.  It had to be the worst moment of my entire life! I bond with my fish very well. But, if you spent several days staring at a fish, you would too!

Here is a picture of Kikkoman.

A Tale of Two Kitties

Posted in My pets

This is A Tale of Two Kitties. In other words, this is about my cats. I have two cats, as the title says, named Mimi and Buddy. Mimi is a grumpy female Tortoiseshell American Shorthair. The only times she is not grumpy is when I open a can of tuna or give her some other kind of meat, or when she is playing. Buddy is a lazy female Mitted Seal Point Ragdoll. It's hard to keep her from getting to sleep! Mimi and Buddy are biological sisters, born in my house sometime in April of 2001. They have a black and white brother named Simon, and Susie, a black kitty, is their sister. Mimi and Buddy get along pretty well, when they go within 6 feet of each other. Mimi loves to hunt, but Buddy will only catch a bird to save her life. My baby sister loves the cats, sometimes a bit too much. She always wants to "hug" the kitties, but it usually ends up with a hiss, a scratch, and a crying baby. But, the cats aren't too bright. To get away from the baby, they move ten inches or jump into a box and think they're safe. Cats are very good at entertaining, but it's only when they're making a fool of themselves. My cats may be foolish, lazy, grumpy and dumb, but that's the way they're supposed to be and I love them.

Now you know A Tale of Two Kitties.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Here is a blurry picture of Mimi.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
This is Buddy. Again, this is a blurry picture but it is probably the best I have.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is another cat I don't own anymore. His name is Baby. He was very sweet. But he was in a bad mood on the day we took this picture, so that's why he looks mad.

Tips For Fishkeepers

1. Change 25% of the water every week. Replace old water with clean, dechlorinated water.

2. Never use soap or any chemical not meant for aquariums on or near your aquarium or aquarium euipment.

3. NEVER keep any kind of fish in a bowl or vase.

4. Remember, 1 inch of fish per gallon.

5. Do not put foreign objects in your aquarium.

I will have more tips later. Keep these in mind and you'll be a successful fishkeeper in no time!
