2nd & 4th Fridays - Gardendale Park Day 12:00 - whenever???? Come join Everest Academy at Gardendale Celebration Park located at 2191 Fieldstown Road at the corner of Fieldstown Road and Jew Hollow Road.    For more information on the park, please look here:  Celebration Park .  This is a beautiful and well-maintained park with plenty of room to play.  They also have a large soccer field where the kids can play football, Frisbee, etc.  Make sure to bring jump ropes, hula hoops, board games, bubbles etc.  Let's have a great time!  This park day is open to all homeschoolers regardless of cover school.  We extend a special invite to all teen homeschoolers!

Wow!  Everest Academy has been offered an awesome opportunity by Jasper Natatorium.  It is time to get ready for the swimming season, and Jasper Natatorium has invited  Everest Academy to  four  fun-filled open swim sessions that will include a water aerobics class for mom and a water safety class for the kids.  How cool is that?   Each session will begin at 11:00 a.m. and go until whenever.  Each session will offer open swim  in the huge indoor Olympic-sized heated pool the entire session plus moms can participate (or not) in the water aerobics class from 11:00 - 11:30 a.m., and the kids can participate (or not) in Whale Tales from 12:30 - 1:30 p.m.   If you have children that do not want to swim, there is an awesome playground at the Jasper Natatorium as well.  If mom does not participate in the water aerobics or the open swim, she does not have to pay.  Participants must pay for all four sessions, so $8 will pay for four open swim sessions per person plus either four water aerobics classes for mom or four Whale Tales sessions per child.  Each participant can participate in the open swim and/or the water aerobics class (mom) or Whale Tales (children).

Cost is $8 per person for all four sessions.  This will enable Jasper Natatorium to have ample lifeguards on duty.
We have a limit of 50 participants for the Whale Tales.  You must sign up for all four sessions.
Deadline for signup, payment, and cancellation is April 29.

Water Aerobics
11:00 - 11:30 a.m.

You will get a 30 minute medium-high impact aerobics that will benefit you in the following areas:

  • Lose weight effectively
  • Improve balance and agility
  • Ease arthritis pain
  • Recover from surgery
  • Alleviate the symptoms of fibromyalgia, RSD and MS

Whale Tales
12:30 - 1:30 p.m.

American Red Cross Longfellow's WHALE Tales provides easy-to-follow information to help children learn safe behavior in, on and around the water.  WHALE Tales makes water safety fun and easy to learn. Longfellow's WHALE Tales includes eight basic lessons.  Ages 5 and up.
  • Swim with a buddy in a supervised area.
  • Be cool, follow the rule—the reasons behind water safety rules.
  • Look before you leap—choose safe places to swim and dive.
  • Think so you don't sink—what to do when things go wrong.
  • Reach or throw, don't go—safe ways to rescue a swimmer in trouble.
  • Don’t just pack it, wear your jacket—the importance of wearing a life jacket.
  • Cold can kill—knowing the hazards.
  • Learn about boating before you go floating.

Open Swim
11:00 a.m. - through whenever...

The water aerobics class and Whale Tales will not affect your ability to continue swimming in the pool.  The pool has plenty of room for both activities.

Calling All Alabama Homeschooling Teens!

I don't know about you, but I have had to really stretch at times to find social opportunities for my now 15-year-old son. We have had an awesome time with Teen Scene and made MANY new friends. Some of the things we have done with Teen Scene include bowling, movies, bonfire, camping, Galleria, parties, picnics, laser tag, swimming, and just simple "hanging out" and bonding.

We now have several Teen Scenes located throughout Alabama including Blount County, Birmingham, Jasper, Enterprise, Huntsville, Auburn, and Tuscaloosa. Teen Scene is purely for social activities and is open to all homeschoolers regardless of cover school. For more information, please look here: http://www.homeschoolblogger.com/Everest/Teen+Scene/ . If you are interested in Teen Scene but there is not one near you, I would be happy to help you get one started.
