• Sep. 26, 2008 - Show & Tell: Our Sunday School

Posted By Jenn 4 Him in Show and Tell
Good day to you, my friends.  Last night as we were setting up for Sunday it occurred to me that I have never written about our Sunday School.

First of all, let me tell you that both my husband and I feel a strong call to our ministry.  We've tried to run away in the past and were shown how wrong we were to do so.  It was with great prayer and many blessings that we accepted the call to be First Grade Coordinators.  We totally rely on the Lord for every detail.  (We've learned this lesson the hard way. )

This year, our third year as coordinators, we are so blessed to have a wonderful group of helpers.  We know they are gifts from the Lord and we do not take that for granted.  Everything about this year is different from the years past and we are so blessed.  I know it is because of the prayers we have asked for from our Flock Group.  (Thank you, Lord for having mercy on us!)

I try not to think of the future.  Committing to 40 weeks of Sundays is always a struggle for my flesh.  I have to be faithful now and not worry about next year, although I am tempted to run away from my God given gifts and take it easy.  So I refuse to think ahead to next year and the next!  I will submit my will and allow God to use me as long as He gives me breath.

Here are some pictures of our classroom.
There are 8 tables of 8-10 kids and a leader.

Here are the bulletin boards we made this year.  The first is of the questions we will ask each Sunday.

The next board contains the answers, a new letter each week.  We are on week 4 this week.

This board will be covered with letters as well by the end of June.

And here is the best part of our classroom, my favorite thing, the closet!

This picture does not do it's size justice.  It's deep and wide!

Thank you for dropping by to see my Show & Tell.  Please see Mary for more posts.  And have a wonderful weekend.   I'll be around to see your posts as time allows today.

• Sep. 24, 2008 - Dreaming

Posted By Jenn 4 Him in Getting to Know Me
Have you ever wanted something, really wanted something, and knew that you were going to have to wait to have that something you really, really wanted?  Of course, I knew you would say yes.  It is a common affliction among us human types.  Here is what I am longing for these days.

It started with a longing for an RV, then a pop-up camper and now, since I can't have those things, I have set my sights on a tent.  ( We do plan to try to save up for a good used pop-up one of these days.)

I have only been camping one time as an adult and that was years ago before I was married.  I woke up with a sore back as I recall.  And before that I went as a child one time and hated it.  It rained and I was cold and wet.  So why am I now longing for a tent and all the accessories?

I've realized that this is the time that our kids are old enough to enjoy camping.  I've always loved being outdoors.  My husband and I used to go to our lovely state parks before kids.  We've gone a few times, but with him working Saturdays for the last 10 years, it just never worked out to go when you don't have two days off in a row.

Next Saturday we are getting up really early, packing a cooler and heading up to our favorite state park, Indiana Dunes.  We are going to walk some trails, walk along the lake, and visit the nature center.  Oh, and you can bet we will be making some camping reservations for this coming Summer!  (We can't do that before then because we are happily committed to 37 more weeks of Sunday School. But I am not counting.)  Perhaps I will have something worth while to blog about next week!

Anyway, until we can go camping we are researching the whole idea of camping.  I have 6 books from the library to read.  We've been all over the Internet looking at tents and sleeping bags.  And now, I am asking you, my sweet blogging friends for your advice.  What would  you want to tell a novice camper?  Any advice you would care to share is welcome.  But please do not tell me to give up this dream, for I am afraid it is firmly rooted in my heart and even if I wake up cold, wet and sore, I am going camping with my family and I am going to love it.

New question:  We've been reading reviews on tents.  One is good the next is bad.  How do you sort these out to know if you are getting a bad tent or if it was just their tent?

• Sep. 24, 2008 - What do you say?

Posted By rockyridge in What's on My Mind Now
A good friend of mine, a godly woman, has come to me with a situation that I do not feel qualified to handle.  In fact, I told her that if it were me, I'd be in counseling with a godly focus.

Almost two years ago her husband had a stroke during heart surgery at the age of 33 or so.  He's been on disability and working part time since then.  Their troubles started long ago, however.  He professed to be a Christian, but seems to have fallen away, having no desire to go to church or pray or read the Bible.  I know that she has some blame in all of this, too, but I don't know the whole story, just her side.  Anyway, they have 3 homeschooled children and a lot of stress in their marriage.

Yesterday she told me she is thinking about a divorce.  He wants to move far away and she doesn't want to.  It's a long story.  He wants to go be near his family.  She hates his family who are all non-believers.  Anyway, it is a hard situation.  All I could think was to tell her to go to her church and ask for help.  I've told her this for years and she never has.  I don't know what else to do.  She has entered into the "for worse" part of her vows and I know the Lord expects her to stick it out.  The world has another opinion.  I just don't think it is the answer.

I have nothing to say.  I have no cute pictures to post.  I am officially without blog content.  I am drawing a blank, a big fat zero.  No silly quiz to post either.  Nothing.  No meme, either.  Boy, are you glad you are here visiting me or what!

• Tuesday, September 23, 2008 - Not much

Posted By mrsowr

I haven't posted much around the old blog lately. We have been, well, living life. Not much has gone on outside of the daily activities and we didn't build any projects last week with Winter Promise and the camera, well, let's say it sat on the shelf.

It is getting colder each day. This morning I think is the coldest yet at 22 degrees. It will warm up when the sun makes its appearance but I have a washer full of winter coats, hats, mittens and the like getting all washed up in preparation. The laundry pile was huge yesterday morning with all those extra things added to the weekend laundry pilings. The pile was reduced greatly yesterday and by the time we go to bed tonight we should be caught up to normal laundry amounts. (Laundry is never finished) I may even go build a nice cozy fire in the wood stove this morning.....

May the Lord find us faithful.

Tomorrow the 23rd is my father's birthday!  He reads my blog quite often, so I thought I would use this as a way to wish him a wonderful day.  He lives in CT, so I won't be able to see him and give him a birthday hug in person. (I'll call you later, Dad! )
I love you!Photobucket

• Sep. 22, 2008 - Discipline

Job 5:16-18 (New International Version)

16 So the poor have hope,
       and injustice shuts its mouth.

 17 "Blessed is the man whom God corrects;
so do not despise the discipline of the Almighty.

 18 For he wounds, but he also binds up;
he injures, but his hands also heal.

Deuteronomy 8:4-6 (New International Version)

4 Your clothes did not wear out and your feet did not swell during these forty years. 5 Know then in your heart that as a man disciplines his son, so the LORD your God disciplines you.

6 Observe the commands of the LORD your God, walking in his ways and revering him.

1 Corinthians 9:24-26 (New International Version)

24Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.

25Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. 26Therefore I do not run like a man running aimlessly; I do not fight like a man beating the air.

• Sep. 20, 2008 - Thankfulness

Posted By rockyridge in Praiseworthy Things
Lord, thank you for not giving up on me despite my fickle heart.  I am so easily distracted from pursuing you.  Please forgive me.

Lord, thank you for music that feeds my soul.  I love singing to you!

Lord, thank you for the change of seasons.  I am looking forward to fall's glorious colors.

Lord, thank you for giving me the courage to tell someone I love that she is wrong for telling me things about her husband that she should only tell you.  I am sorry it took me so long.

Lord, thank you for the whole of creation and its beauty.

Lord, thank you that you are incomprehensible.

Lord, thank you for the Sunday Schoolers we are getting to know.  Help us to show your love to them.  Help me to not grow weary in doing good.

Lord, thank you for Saturdays with my family.
