Happy Thanksgiving
The Thanksgiving holiday weekend is upon us, a time of reflection of the things we are thankful for. This year the kids and I made a thanksgiving bulletin board and each day we wrote something we were thankful for and added it to our display. The kids comments ranged from the typical kid stuff of being thankful for thier family, friends and toys, but my daughter's (9) list was things like "I am thankful that God gave his Son to die for me" and my Son (5) said "I am thankful that God is my help and my shield". I guess it is safe to say they are not as consumed with material things as I thought, and I am doing something right in their spiritual instruction.
For myself, my blessings this year have been great. The biggest thing I have to be thankful for of course is the opportunity I have to homeschool my children. I do not know that if I lived in a different province that did not have the support that we do (with facilitators to answer questions, funding for books etc) here in Alberta, that I would be able to homeschool my kids. We are so blessed to have the freedoms that we do and that the Alberta gov't supports our choice as parents to give our children the best education possible. When ever we face an election I worry about those rights and what changes may be in store if the powers that be decide homeschooling is no longer an option. Until such a change is made I will remain thankful with each day that I can homeschool my kids, and watch them blossom right before my eyes.
Have a wonderful holiday weekend, drive safe and see you next week. |
