I just recently purchased, received and have started reading the book, Managers of Their Chores. I am so inconsistent in this area... myself and in getting my children to come alongside me and do chores.
I have made up lists and charts.... nothing seems to help us stick to it. Maybe I haven't come up with a good consequence for not following through. Maybe I don't do a good job of following up to see if my kids have completed their chores.
I just seem to have so much on my plate and I can't seem to manage this area well.
So, I will try to update you as I read through and implement this book.
A head's up, though... as much as I like HomeschoolBlogger, I might be changing blogging sites. Ever since the *upgrade* here, I have had so much trouble. Often times, I have tried to log on here to post a new entry and I can't get it to load. I know others have had difficulty as well, so it's not just me; it's the site. I do hope they can get it fixed... as I really like it here... but in the meantime, I'm looking around at other blogging sites....
Have a blessed week! |

I just changed blog sites last week. I moved over to Blogger for the same reasons you're considering a move. I miss the old HSB. I miss visiting blogs. It seems when I have a chance to sit down and visit, the pages won't open or I can't post comments. I wonder why, if so many people are having issues, they aren't fixing it?
As for chores this is what I do. Everybody has daily chores. So they get up and must have their chores done within 1/2 hour or NO breakfast. Teenage boys love to eat, so no food is a great motivator!
They also have weekly chores that we do every Thursday afternoon. When they finish school, they do their weekly chores before they are allowed free time. Also another thing they like. Often I have to call them back to redo, especially if I have gotten lax in checking on them.
We do not rotate chores very often. I want them to know what to do and do it well. So maybe 2x a year we switch them up, after they are good at them. But usually they like to keep what they have.
